Very likely true, but it sucks in the US that if a really talented kid is on a roster, the teams will be pissed if they leaves to a real MLS Academy.
Everywhere else in the world, that's a badge of honor.

Definitely a hit to wins/losses which are critical to attracting future players to the club, so, indirectly, yes, it also affects a clubs future revenues and perceived status.
