Most college coaches will walk away from players like that. Its not worth the trouble. Remember, this is how that coach supports his family, no way they will put that at jeopardy for some a@@hole kid

The doesn’t really work well because there too much geographic separation between MLS teams
Twelve years old don't need to then. By15-16, yes if a family can make it work. Its been done but few CT players are even good enough to make the squads.

You and I both know politics weeds out equivalent players and favors proven incumbents. Is there an exception to move into a bench spot on a blue moon once and a while - sure. But the game is already over by U15. That’s not a US or soccer thing either - it’s true in elite basketball and soccer outside the US. Until the geographic divide is solved the US will never win a World Cup on the men’s side (maybe even women’s now that the world caught up). We are only effectively using maybe a 1/10 of the eligible players with a MLS only academy model. I’m not an Oakwood fan, but teams like that need to be positioned on equal footing. Let the actual coaching and development determine what happens next.

95 or more percent of the kids playing club are not elite and never will be. You can’t train someone into being elite. Those kids need to be trained yea but they are born with elite skills. The rest are just paying 3k to play travel soccer and hopefully have fun. That is reality. Same in every sport. Soccer’s issue in the USA is the starting pool is small. It is limited to wealthy suburbs kids and that pool is too small to really compete on the world stage for the boys
