Why can't HS coaches just shut up on the sidelines? Constant yelling does not help the kids improve their play on the field.

They're no different than club coaches. Some are yellers and directors, some sit or stand quietly and do their directing at halftime and at practice.

I really wish our coach were more vocal & passionate about the game. She wants to be buddies with girls. Never really tears into the team at halftime or even games end . Even when they are playing crappy.

Some players need some verbal motivation . I don't mean a negative tearing down or embarassing a player. It's the form of motivation that makes a player play her heart out to the very last whistle. A player will not respect a coach that screams, yells or embarasses. That will cause many a player to ignore the coach & basically have I don't care attitude. Players need to respect their coach & a coach needs to respect her players. Not try to be just friends & be afraid to hurt someone's feelings.

Directors? Coaches should not "direct" players during a game. That's when they are learning how to react to unique situations that occur and how to react to their own mistakes. Yes, it's hard to believe, but soccer players will make mistakes, even the good ones. Berating them to the point of distraction will never allow them to learn from those mistakes.

Directing and Berating are two completely different things.. Directing helps them recognize situations and berating is no help at all.

Is there a rule that restricts Club Coaches from coaching in High School?
