For most girls it gives a free chance for them to play a sport for their school. The serious player for the most part finds it a waste of time but a necessary evil for street cred as they play high level club games in anonymity from the peers.

For the parent, I can't wait for it to end. Between the reckless play by hacks and the absolutely incompetent officiating I fear for many players getting seriously injured because of it.

The school yard fields we paly at are a mix of Bahia and St. Augustine grass and weeds. Ball does not roll. Close foot skill is lost.

It may not be the same all over the state but in Miami-Dade Public Schools it is a travesty to the game.

The officiating is plain bad, many of the refs don't really know how to implement the rules because they have never played soccer. The funny thing is; you can hack people all day and no card but if you said a BAD word, you're gone!

Really? I see the same refs in high school that I see at club games. I think the HS problem is lack of ARs on the lines. The three refs on the field still miss offsides calls.

I can tell by your comments that a few calls went against your team, which were most likely good no calls. I bet you want every little touch called your way, but your team can hack away and you scream if it gets called. I also assume one of your players let out the f-bomb and was sent off. Guess what? HS coaches know the rules and tell the kids to keep the language clean. At every captain/coach coin flip, the refs remind them about conduct. You curse, you do so at your own peril.

I see the same refs we saw at U10 & U11. That's about their speed. Terrible for high school age girls.

There is nothing better than wearing the jersey of your school with your classmates cheering for you. Fortunately we have the best team in the state and have won 4 state titles in the last 5 years. The talent for each team may be lower, but when you make the playoffs and states, there is nothing better. My kid wouldn't trade that ring for anything in the world.


Most kids aren't going pro or even college so to deprive them of this is a crime. I totally understand the academy kids skipping high school. That is their decision. Many will play college and a lucky few will play pro, but Weston has now tried to bully the non-academy kids into not playing, but they have no legal recourse. when you sign for a club there is a contract, you cannot force a non academy kid to not play high school. If Weston didn't want kids playing high school, they should have said this before tryouts. If they continue this bullying, I have an attorney locked and loaded and will do the work gratis. Who do they think they are benefiting from this? High school is done before state cup begins, and they have already deemed these kids not good enough for academy.

Officiating any sport is not easy. You are wrong in the eyes of 50% of the fans on almost every call. Even professional referees get it wrong after watching instant replays. So be kind to the people calling your game for $20.00.

Great girls game the other night between American heritage and Saint Thomas Aquinas. Plenty of talent on the field for both teams. Saint Thomas wins 1–0.

I wonder what would happen if all of you middle to upper class parents paying thousands of dollars for so call elite soccer programs in this country, brought your entitled spoiled brats to any soccer field in Nigeria or a suburb in Argentina. They would get slaughtered by barefoot kids playing on dirt fields!

Give it a few more years and you will see the same thing that is happening to men's soccer happen to the women. The only reason why US women have dominated the sport is because for a long time they were the only ones playing the sport. Those same dirt fields in Africa and South America will develop hard and tough women that will destroy our girls. Wait and see.
