3 Refs, 3 Whistles, Equal Power

Whats everyones opinion of the ref system we are using for High School? I personally hate it and think it's one of the most ridiculous things i've ever seen on a soccer field. I constantly see the 3 refs contradicting each other and it's only a matter of time before one of the 3 ego maniacs with a whistle blows a game between to high quality teams.

The worst thing I have ever seen . What a joke ! These High school refs are the worst !

It's more like basketball.

Only using 2 refs in Palm Beach County

2 refs or 3. they all have whistles and in some cases it is a joke, in some it wokrs BUT this sport was not inteneded to be this controlled. it is almost like outdoor basketball with your feet. next thing we will be allocated time outs..

I have seen this done at 9 games now and have not seen a correct offsides call made yet. The two non center referees wander too far up field so that they are no longer on the last defender so if you have a fast player up top and they blow by the defenders on a through ball the refs always seem to assume they were off when the ball is played. Why is it that FHSAA thinks that they know more about the game than FIFA?

The two ref system is the absolute worst thing i have ever seen. Refs making calls on plays that are happening 70 yard away.

Or, my favorite, the ref on the other side of the field and at the other end making a call on a play right in front of the other ref.

ive seen about 4 games done like this in boys and girls, and in the girls games ive seen i havent seen 1 offside called yet. i saw my 1st boys game last night and the refs were to slow to get in position to make the call and would call offsides when they were not even close to the last defender. this is a bunch of bull

I emailed that question to the AD of FHSAA and she said to attending some meeting at the end of the year. Her response to me was very short and did say when or where,,, figures!!

The refs are definately out of position for the off sides call. A number of officials are not quick enough to keep up with the pace of the game as it is. So putting more of them on the field is a mistake. Then you have officials who are still used to the old way and are making calls from 30 yds away when another official is with in feet and this is not an exageration. However, the offsides call is the call that will be missed the most with the new system and some teams are going to lose because of it. FHSAA probably put this rule in becuase they are tyring to get more control of the games. Year after year the harp on the fact that soccer has more ejections than any other sport. No kidding. When a player can be sent off for a hard foul where as in football or basketball it is a personal foul or a technigual foul respectively. I don't understand how something that is so obvious can be overlooked. How about FHSAA put someone with a lot of soccer experience in charge of making decisions about soccer instead of people who have not played or if they did it was 20 years ago in a rec league.

You'd have to go change the statistics gathered from other states showing less red card offenses. It looks like it's here to stay, FHSAA is their own entity and doesn't seem to change for anyone.
I understand the earlier posts and can agree with some that there are some crews that may not be very good at the 3 whistle system and, maybe, shouldn't even be on the field at all. Some Associations didn't want to do this in the first place, so they may not have tweeked their refs yet. Get a good crew and it works like a charm, a bad one will give you more reasons to trash it.
I don't give to much credence to the people who constantly say the refs miss offsides. They could miss offsides as much as if they had flags. Offsides is a judgement call and should be left out of the hands of fans that only see their side, in most cases.
Do I like the system? YES, with the right side referees.
Keep in mind, referees can't do right no matter if they have whistles or flags.
What part of the state are the posts from anyway? mae your area when complaining so everyone knows where the refs are from. That all makes a difference in refs too. JUST MY OPINION.

Due to not being vulgar, I won't say what I really think of the 3 whistle system. Just another thing to give the refs a even holier-than-though persona in the game. There was a palm beach county game already this week where 14 yellowcards and a straight red card were given....ALL by the center ref.

If they really want a system that works, let video evaluations or complaints of the refs occur, and try to recruit refs that can actually RUN and keep up with the play. Football evaluates its refs this way, but for soccer, no can do.

Boys HS game is violent as it is, but add a chip onto a refs shoulder, and it just makes it unbearable for players, coaches, and fans of both teams. 2-man may be fine for JV, but not for varsity.

Even the refs say....go back to old way, but let linesman call a foul with a whistle....but keep them on the lines.
