More likely the candidate saw it was shaky venture just getting off the ground. It could wind up being great, or it could go the opposite direction. If it was that person mentioned chances are they saw MF as a more stable entity. SD Surf is a good club, no doubt about it. But this is basically a franchise operation - how many clean Dunkin Donuts have you been to vs dirty ones? It all depends on who is running the show locally.

Well Surf don't have franchises as anyone who can read on their website can understand - The delay is due to the grandness of what they are pulling off - heard it will be a big week for news from Surf about this since all the Surf the Execs will all be out in SD with the media for Surf Cup so stay tuned to the wires Goal Nation & soccerwire. May not be a true franchise but the venture requires strong local management and coaching. You can't manage this from 3500 miles away. Thus far the impression has been they don't know what they're doing.

It's probably an asst coach. It doesn't help their GDAP case unless they asked for their application to be held until they got all folks on board. I dint see how you ca apply for a GIRLS DA without a Girl's DOC named.

No they definitely named the DOC on the app (just not to all of us) and all clubs are allowed to send in supplemental submissions. I think they have a great shot as they have the most A and B licensed coaches of any club now.

There is the criterion of producing various types of players. I noticed several personnel have ties to LIRR. Did they tie their app to the semi-pro club?

And then there is criterion of geographical location. Surf's Adelphi home base is pretty close to EM. How do they justify a 2nd GDAP about 20-25 minutes sway?

Tough call - obviously Surf SD is a know entity but this is a new, unproven branch. They haven't shown that those licensed coaches can develop players yet. Their facilities are questionable and certainly not owned. Giving it to NY surf would raise lots of eyebrows. But, part of it is politics as well so who knows

They can't justify it and it won't happen. Why take a chance with a new organization? Adelphi is about 5 miles, maybe less from EM. There big name coaches are full time college coaches. Definitely not what DA is looking for. Adelphi also shares those fields with other soccer clubs and Lax, oh yeah AND THE ADELPHI SOCCERS TEAMS! How can they schedule DA games there in the fall? You can't. It's all so absurd. EM was a draw for DA because they own their fields. Plus Surfs player pool is not close to big enough. So basically, they meet zero of the criteria for GDA. It's all hype.

That is a very good question. What is going on at Surf that would cause someone to pause and consider their "reputation" and its potential tarnishing??

Tying it to a semi pro or pro team would be a good move. GDAP is desperately trying to recreate boys model so that's one strategy. As far as justifying EM closeness, it's called taking out a ECNL program. Three years from now there will be a merger due to lack of results.

Honest question b/c I don't know the answer: Are there other LI clubs beyond Alby and EM who have produced Girls or Women's National Team players? Maybe from Massapequa, Farmingdale, or the old Syosset teams?

In NJ, beyond PDA and MF, there are some Girl NT players from NJ Stallions and SJEB (South Jersey Elite Barons).

They issue is the competition for the fields. You can say you have ten fields. If you don't have full access to the fields, they are not yours, thus a problem.
