    Spain is the 2023 World Cup champion, defeating England 1-0 on Sunday in the final at Stadium Australia in Sydney. A masterclass from Spain in the first half produced the game’s only goal from Olga Carmona.



    Here are three keys to the game that won Spain its first senior Women’s World Cup:



    Spain attacks wide areas


    England coach Sarina Wiegman stuck with a 3-5-2 to start against Spain, and England plaid. Spain consistently broke out of England’s high pressure and also won the ball back quickly on the counter press. La Roja then attacked the space left vacant by England’s fullbacks, which is how they scored in the 29th minute.
