A switch in tactics makes the difference for Canada in win over Ireland

PERTH, Australia — It was a tale of two halves as the Canadian women’s national team seemingly flipped a switch at halftime and took over in a 2-1 win over the Republic of Ireland. It was the second of Canada’s Group B matches.

Canada was playing lacksidasical in the first half as Ireland came out flying and set the tone with a fantastic ‘Olimpico’ goal from Irish skipper Katie McCabe. Ireland was buzzing as they pressed Canada, intercepted passes and hemmed Canada in their own half.

The Canadians looked like the same team that struggled to get forward in the scoreless draw against Nigeria on July 30.

Canada’s first half against Ireland lacked focus, determination and that familiar Canadian DNA.

How did Canada flip the script and come away with all three points?
