Why would anyone play in Silverlakes? It will be 100 there tomorrow. Seattle United is playing in it. Anyone else? Is there a financial reason to subject players and families to this? What does SU's medical advisory board say about playing in excessive heat? Thsis is what US Soccer says about it https://bsbproduction.s3.amazonaws.c...guidelines.pdf

Have been 3 times. It is hot, but the facilities are better than anything you will see locally. They roll out the red carpet for college coaches, this is the draw.
I like Surf Cup better, if we are just talking about soccer conditions.

The only good thing is that they thus far haven't had games smoked out due to fires. Tons of coaches their first year, and decreasing numbers subsequently because it isn't a good place for anyone to showcase anything and coaches can only justify so many trips. Still a decent number of coaches (the tournament is more than a month away so the thin list posted above isn't indicative), but nearly as many as Surf or even Players Showcase, let alone an ECNL (or probably GA) event. The facility is nice, and the weather in So Cal is much better in May/June, so they'd be better off with a showcase in that timeframe.
Honestly, Washington teams keep going to California for showcases but we should really be looking at Jefferson Cup, Disney showcase, Weston Showcase, Bethesda Cup etc. far more schools playing soccer on East Coast. Given our top teams are every bit as good as those on East Coast it could very well pay off in scholarship money which is kind of whole point.

California has so many good teams and players, and CA coaches have so many opportunities to watch their in-state players and get to know them, only the top top 1% of kids from WA are likely to get an offer from a D1 Cali school. Also, the UC schools are so competitive academically, it's far easier for a CA coach to support admission of an in state player, scholarship money goes further for in state etc. Soccer is popular back east but Seattle produces a lot of quality players and from my small sample size, it's a little easier to compete with kids back east than the Cali kids if you're in the top 15% or so of Seattle players ie on a top team, solid, but not a consistent starter. We get focused on our competitive little Seattle bubble. None of my kids were regular starters here but coaches saw the skill level and recognized they could come to a specific college program and potentially be an impact player. Opportunities are out there if athletes market themselves and have the chance to be seen!

So let me get this straight. It is too hot to train in Seattle but Ok to go to Silverlakes?? The club just canceled all training for Monday. Seems odd that the SU girls are going there while the boys are at Surf.

Check the temperatures. It’s currently 67 degrees in San Diego and forecasted to be 108 in Seattle tomorrow but, by all means keep irrationally trying to trash people that want to go have fun in California. Idiot.
