The north end is an area that's growing rapidly as more housing is built which may necessitate a split at a later date if the two clubs were to merge. The combined entity would certainly have enough strength to make it a top 3, certainly a top 5 club in the RCL.
Presently, with some limited exceptions for individual teams from both clubs, neither produces particularly strong competition (overall). Snohomish has that girls team that went to Nationals, and Sound has a very capable Boys '04 team.
Snohomish, comparatively, is doing pretty well with it's own fields and hosting some main-stay summer tournaments so a merger would benefit Sound more than Snohomish, but there'd be something to gain for both clubs with increased numbers and less overhead.
As it stands, it's clear based on years of under-achieving results Sound needs something different. Except for the 04's they have ZERO teams in the RCL D1. I didn't see a single Snohomish boys team in D1 either. Girls are a different story. Snohomish has one very strong team and some other mid-table girls teams in the RCL. - if you don't believe any of this, just go lookup the standings for yourself and count up how many D1 teams are even registered from these clubs in the RCL. Then draw your own conclusions.
