I posted the comment you responded to, and I appreciate the nuance you added, which is 100% accurate. I would add only that, in my memory, girls who went to Reign for the initial ECNL year knew that the club would be moving into DA the following year, so the DA connection was always there

I think that's pretty much right, although I think it was still unclear during most of that first year whether US Soccer and ECNL would work out some kind of a joint venture to combine into DA (which, after a series of meetings, ultimately didn't happen because US Soccer was, per usual, too stupid, inflexible and arrogant and insisted on things like no high school, two year age groups, making the DA showcases free, and not letting the ECNL people run the showcases; Lavers and the ECNL people ultimately got the last laugh from that negotiation).
