“The CDC said the novel coronavirus, which causes covid-19, has taken a disproportionate toll on Latinos and Blacks, as previous analyses have noted. But the CDC also found, surprisingly, that it has struck 25- to 44-year-olds very hard: Their ‘excess death’ rate is up 26.5 percent over previous years, the largest change for any age group.”

It's funny because your exclamation is a bold face lie.

The cultists, Covid deniers, mask protestors, etc are despicable and irredeemable. But democratic politicians and a large and loud subset of the epidemiological and public health community have done done their fair share of harm too.

Many of the forecasting models (including those from IHME and IDMOD at UW, have been wildly off and still are based on infection fatality rates far in excess of the scientific consensus (which is now somewhere between .25 and .6%, a fraction of what IHME is using for its current forecast). The failure to have ANY policies — whether allowing outdoor youth sports, in person learning, or even opening playgrounds — tailored to the fact that the risk of the disease is minimal in people under 25 is shameful (the CDC reported today that all cause deaths among people under 25 are actually lower than average for the year). It’s been eight months and there has been almost no progress on rapid testing, using CT values to drill down which PCR positives are and aren’t infectious, adjusting policies to focus on containing highly localized outbreaks rather than “one size fits all” countywide policies for a county with 2.25mm people, having a sufficient contact tracing program, or having a defined plan for getting kids back to school. It’s easy to see why people get frustrated when the state takes months to roll out a policy on youth sports when the state has some of the lowest numbers in the country, finally announces one that is based on metrics that are totally disconnected from the (limited) risks of outdoor youth sports and far more restrictive than almost anyone else in the country, and then effectively pulls the rug from there kids after announcing the reopening with great fanfare. There has to be something smarter, more nuanced, and more evidence driven than “stay safe, stay home” + reopen whatever random category of business activity gets the ear of the state’s consultants this week. I’m the furthest thing possible from a Culp voter, and I thought Inslee handled the pandemic very well over the first few months, but I get why people are fed up and increasingly prone to the denialists.

They once said over 2 million people in the US would die of Covid this year alone....Trump did a great job and saved over 1.7 million lives but the media will say he killed 300,000.

What studies of infectious rates? Because of the ****ty job done around testing there isn't enough data to get a clear picture. Which is why you see different numbers. Mandate weekly testing, strictly enforce reporting and quarantining, and we'd probably be able to manage a season even with higher numbers per 100k.

Here's a fun little dashboard from Georgia: https://covid19risk.biosci.gatech.edu/

As the number per 100k goes up so are the risks you'll be interfacing with someone whos sick, possibly without themselves even knowing they are.

In King County, where we’ve now tested more than 500,000 people (almost 1/4 of the population), and many people more than once. Today there was .7% positivity on more than 28,000 tests. The positivity rates and hospitalization numbers show there isn’t any significant community spread at the moment.

The projection that 2 million would die reflected a scenario where absolutely nothing was done and we allowed the virus to spread unchecked. Lives have been saved with the steps taken by individual states. The lack of federal response has spurred a higher death toll. But please, by all means, spew your Trump talking points.

“Our hospitals are getting overwhelmed,” Republican Utah Gov. Gary Herbert said this week. “The dramatic increase in infections has put the integrity of our health care system at risk.“

The University of Utah Health System, one of the largest hospitals in the state, reported its ICU is 95 percent filled, and health systems in other parts of the country have been forced to relocate patients because of bed and staffing shortages.

Herbert said the National Guard is on standby to build a field hospital in a convention center outside Salt Lake City, and on Tuesday he ordered masks be worn at all outdoor events.

                            Oh, THAT'S why.

Maybe Inslee listening to scientists isn't such a bad thing after all. Instead, you'd have us listen to Culp, the clown who didn't even graduate high school.

                            You're an idiot.
Wow, even Utah is in such bad shape? Are you sure it isn’t a hoax? Was told the virus only hit blue states.

Utah is the cheese in the 7-later dip that is the Covid hoax.

It’s sad that they have to be so selfish. We could be like New Zealand and other countries that followed the rules, shut down for awhile and are now back to almost normal life after getting control of the virus.
