    Tryouts 2020

Wouldn't it be in the best interest of the players to just move tryouts out to June or July? Player placement is Select level stuff.

The thing is everyone wants to start collecting fees before you can even get on the field. For older High School girls, you are talking a few practice before everything is shut down until January.

No way. Why wait to push it off. The players have trained the entire year with coaches who know where they should be placed. Get back on the field as soon as safe. No need to force tryouts which by the way would be in bigger groups (talking 100 kids) on fields at a time. Would rather have them decided before hand and training in smaller groups for safety and because tryouts aren't necessary.

The clubs have to be worried about attrition. The longer they wait, the greater the risk kids will find something else to do or decide they don't miss soccer that much. This player placement plan is for the same reason that they typically old tryouts immediately after state cup and the take the next month off--strike while the iron is hot.
Attrition is probably far less of a concern for A team players, but the administrators' salaries are also paid with D, E and F team players.

This is true. Hence the "anonymous posters" ;) clubs and admin worried that they won't get to fleece the parents and secure their salaries. How awful would it be if parents realize that they can live without pay to play soccer.

I mean, HURRY HURRY GET YOUR KID SIGNED UP ASAP, OR THEY MIGHT NOT HAVE A PLACE ON THE TEAM AT ALL!

I AM GETTING HUNDREDS, NO THOUSANDS OF CALLS AND EMAILS TO FILL THOSE FINAL 3 SLOTS ON THE C TEAM!!!

DAWDLE AND MISS OUT! I'M GETTING CALLS FROM MEDINA TO CLYDE HILL! I'M TURNING KIDS AWAY RIGHT AND LEFT!!

Your preferred club will take you anytime of the year. You may not get on the team you want right now, but no one knows what team they will be on anyways. Just sign up now and pay, find out behind one of the curtains later where they will place you.

Now I am hearing kids will practice with masks, no touching a ball with your hands, 6 feet apart during drills and on the bench. Might as well join a FIFA 2020 Xbox League.

The absolute best situation for coaches and kids would be to provide academy style training (group training that all within an age group would participate in) and after two weeks or so make placements. For some clubs, maybe this needs to be broken into a couple groups by age- if you have a C and D team. Take the A's and B's in one group, take the C's and D's in another. Allow the kids to move between groups if it makes sense.

Further, i think the kids start to self identify with the appropriate group reducing the heartache when DD or DS doesn't make the top team.

Allow the coaches to get a good look and feel for the kids they have, determine the best roster, and go!

But this will never happen. Why? Because parents will go elsewhere to be assured an "A" team spot.

            Dumb.

The tryout calendar in WA sets everyone up for the worst case scenario. This year is weird cuz it's all virtual, but in a normal year kids are trying out while the current season is still in process. Coaches are going off whatever they feel about a current player, feelings are hurt, and then the team is supposed to keep playing together for a couple months after tryout drama. It's insane. Local Volleyball calendar makes a lot more sense -- kids finish the season, go off and do private training, camps etc, do high school season, and then tryout again a couple months before club season starts. Coaches come with a more open mind and can see who has been working on their own to improve and if/when cuts or demotions happen, it feels less personal.

If there is no return to play this summer, then players will see themselves with completely different teams once soccer starts back up. I think you're going to see a lot of high school aged players drop off (more than usual) from club soccer. Better to save the $$$$ and save it towards college.
