I’m sure your clearly genuine concern is much appreciated by all. And your insights into future developments in a market in which, just today, 24 of the former DA clubs (including four of the top ten girls clubs in the country) announced they are launching a league with other clubs around the country in competition with ECNL, and in which no one or will playing soccer with or against anyone for at least a couple months, and in which it’s unclear anyone will be getting on planes anytime soon, are surely uniquely well-informed.

Even if the Reign join that league, the clubs are all SoCal, TX, and Midwest. Other than Portland Thorns... imagine that travel for league games

Actually I am sorry to see it. I don't have a daughter who plays soccer, just a son. I have a neighbor on the Reign and they are family friends. I agree with you about airline travel to games, I don't think it will happen this fall at all.
The ECNL likely could at least play local games. The league you speak of I am sure you know just took three areas of the country with teams that didn't get into ECNL. I am sure there will be more, I just don't see how that's changes the equation for the Reign.

There will be nobody from the Northwest playing in the new formed league. Every club is scrambling to get ECNL from here to California. Who will Reign play? Its time to inform your members that due to unfortunate circumstances there will not be a viable league to play in. Give families time to find a spot for their daughters.

The three geographic divisions were from 19/20 and didn’t include the new DPL Academy League; 20/21 clearly will be much different unless ECNL gets religion and adds a bunch more clubs. Reign’s entire DA division from nor cal, Oregon and Utah is looking for a new home. Pick up another localish club and they’d be ready to roll with a setup that offers high school play, lower travel costs than previously, and a similar level of competition to ECNL or former DA. My preference would be to merge them all together in one league and let competition on the merits prevail over time, but if that isn’t happening there’s a path that should work fine.

The conference you are suggesting would require plane travel for every away game except Portland. The other conferences listed in this new league are one state each with no plane travel that I can see. I know it's all new and it's possible, I just really don't see that happening.

Certainly an issue and probably the biggest challenge, as the competitiveness of that hypothetical league is at least on par with the ECNL league. The most sensible local candidates are Rush (Colorado Rush seems to be one of the leaders of the new outfit, and Sound’s implosion could free up some players in that neck of the woods, but the local Rush teams would certainly need some reinforcements), Spokane, maybe Whitecaps or another Vancouver area team. The shortened season with hs play makes travel a bit better too.

Bottom line this league will not save the Reign. The numbers are so thin that if only a couple leave the academy is done. As much as people grasp at straws and no one is an influencer here face the reality it is dead.

I think the question is does Reign Academy even want to exist anymore, what is their long term goal. GDA is no more so they're just another soccer club except for the fact that they're associated with a pro team. Does the OL Reign want an academy or do they not? That's really the question. If RA is supported by the pro team they will continue to exist and if they don't then they won't.

The NWSL is the next league to crumble. It was already barely hanging on outside the NW.

There wasn’t a top division of u15 pspl in the fall, and 9th grade u15’s were out playing high schoo, so whatever you saw wasn’t what you say it was. Reign’s top teams almost certainly won’t be playing PSPL— they’ll either be ECNL or they’ll be in the new competitor to ECNL along with a bunch of other former DA clubs and others. No reason for anyone to do anything over the two weeks. Changing clubs without an opportunity to meet and train with a new coach and players would be a poor decision.

The Reign U-15 “Reserves” game I was referring to occurred on Feb 2, 2020 (the winter, my bad) at woodland park. Between the bottom two teams from the Top PSPL girls league. And yes, this is the top PSPL girls U15 leugue. The game is here.

My daughter loves her team though even she admits they are not very good, yet 2 months ago they beet the Reign Academy 05 reserves the other bottom team in their league. It was not good soccer. Sorry. I am not sure what meen when you "There wasn’t a top division of u15 pspl". You can argue its not good soccer but its still the best they have to offer at PSPL.

I am not to worried for these reserve girls as many teams will need their parents $3000 when this starts back up. I am worried about the DA girls though. The starters are a talented bunch and I am afraid if they listen to the Reign management that they will fix everything if the girls just wait around , that the girls will get screwed over. The few open spots back at their original ECNL (former RCL) teams will be handed out in the next 2 weeks and from what I see, playing in the top PSPL division is not an acceptable alternative.

As you see from the other post the NW ECNL league is not going to allow the Reign in and the alternative leagues back east are not going to add one team 1800 miles away. Sorry any Reign girls left in August will be playing for their High School teams in the fall and the PSPL in the winter.

Why would any club with good teams play in PSPL? They (PSPL) just launched an Oregon branch and will make Washington teams travel to Portland to play really, really watered down teams at startup clubs. Huge waste of a season playing in PSPL.

Girls DA are a talented group and will get a spot at any ecnl club they choose even if it’s mid year. The only parents complaining and trashing reign are the ones worried their player will get moved down or lose their starting spot

I wouldn't be so sure that Reign won't be in the ECNL this season. They've joined with the other 4 NWSL academy teams to campaign to get into ECNL as a group. Also adding pressure from Nike who are an ECNL and NWSL sponsor. If ECNL wants a future relationship with NWSL they may have to hold their nose and let the Reign in.
