ECNL: No u18 team (after implementation of birth year). Instead of compressing the team and a half full of u18s and u19s into one team, like the gda does, ECNL makes two u18/19 teams - one “ECNL” and one “ECNL Composite”. “ECNL Composite” has their own league division. How clubs split the teams is up to them. Some do an A team, B team set up. Others do all the 01s on the Composite team and fill in with 02s. Others mix it up. Players in the club can play on either team on any given day, as long as they only play in one game per day.
In both GDA & ECNL, every year the juniors and seniors have their teams messed up and torn up and reformed into just one team(gda) or two different teams in two different divisions(Ecnl). In addition to the 8th-9th cluster, this is the major reason why Ecnl is seriously considering switching to graduation year. Particularly now that college recruiting has been pushed back to right before junior year, breaking up and reforming teams is particularly damaging. Grade based teams would be smooth all the way through from 8th grade to 12th grade, with one team at each grade.
