Crossfire is getting 2 ecnl teams at every age group. Are SU, PACNW, WPFC, and all the WA all going to have two ECNL teams at the u18/19 age group with one playing ECNL and the other playing in an “ecnl composite” league for 2019-2020?

Interesting move to attempt to keep players in and perhaps bring more players to the system. We will see how it works. I have heard that some conferences are extending this structure to the younger age groups. I have not heard anything about whether the Southeastern conference is taking this step. Of course, customers will decide whether it is worthwhile.
2016-17 ECNL COMPOSITE DIVISION
Background: The ECNL Composite Division will be created beginning in the 2016-17 season for the U18/19 age group (1998/1999 birth years). The Composite Division is designed to provide an option for clubs with large player pools in this combined age group to field an additional team within the ECNL structure to keep players in the ECNL for their final seasons in youth soccer.
Composite Division Basics:
• Participation in the Composite Division is optional, both by conference and by clubs within the conference. Any conference may determine whether to support a Composite Division, and any club in the conference may determine whether to participate in the Composite Division.
• The Composite Division Team will be the “second team” in the U18/19 age group
• The specific competition format for the Composite Division will be determined at the conference level, and may be home and away, home or away, or another logical format based on the participating teams. The ECNL must approve the final format.
• ECNL Composite Division players must be carded under the ECNL and will be subject to ECNL roster rules. Players can play for both the ECNL U18/19 Team and the ECNL U18/19 Composite Team, provided all ECNL Rules and Regulations are followed, including without limitation:
o Players may only play one (1) game per day. (Players may not play in a Composite Division game and another ECNL game.)
• ECNL Composite Division players may participate in any ECNL National Event for which they are age eligible.
• There will be no post-season competition for ECNL Composite Division teams.
ECNL Support:
The ECNL will support the Composite Division in the following ways:
• ECNL will add a “U18/U19 Composite Division” tab in standings on the ECNL website
• ECNL will host two (2) ECNL Composite Events during the season
• No Post Season for ECNL Composite teams
Next Steps
Any conference that desires to host a Composite Division should contact the ECNL Commissioner for next steps.

who went all-in ECNL did get two ECNL teams per age group.
If this is true that Crossfire is getting two teams per age group,
then we will have 6 ECNL teams and 1 DA in our "elite" area.
Heh, this is such a joke.

Washington Premiere is getting a composite ECNL for 02/01. Seattle United is as well, but this is not moving past this age group at WP thus far.

The two ECNL teams is about parents egos. This way they can say my kid plays ECNL instead of an “A” team. Clubs can charge more money. Just another thing wrong with youth sports.

At least ECNL is trying but they picked a bad solution where every year at prime recruiting time for juniors (and still many seniors), the oldest two teams are being split up, torn up, mixed up and causing many players to quit. This will happen every single year from here on out unless ECNL comes to its senses and puts, regardless of birth year, seniors on u19 teams, juniors on u18, sophomores on u17, freshmen on u16, and so forth. More teams fitting more girls. Better for the players and better for ecnl’s pocketbook.

Probably just the a composite 18/19 team and u19 team for two teams.
Anybody?

With the birth year change you typically have 50% or so for each grade.
For instance the 02 team are Juniors and Sophomores, 01 only team Seniors and Juniors, and 00 team would be Seniors and College Freshmen.
If teams were 00 only, you would not have enough players because a lot of seniors drop out AND some of 00 birth year players are already in college.

This isn't about "egos" it's about the clusterf*&k that is the age group change. There's a bunch of girls in the 01/02 group that have played ECNL for years. Many States are doing this. You can't possibly dump them all onto one team. It would potentially give the proverbial "shaft" to players that are still talking/looking for schools to go to if they were shut out in the final year. In my opinion. Love newbs talking about parent "egos". LOL.

Originally posted by Unregistered View PostAgreed. Some clubs "solve" this by making a giant u18/19 team. One of the Oregon teams has 29 on the 01/02 roster. That should make for a happy and drama-free season.
After HS season and before ECNL season, the roster will be around 18-20.
That team is going to do one showcase and there will be less than 15 players available.
For all of the travel games, you will have less than 16 players available.
By May, you will be lucky to have 14 players for any given game.

All juniors play ‘02/U18, all sophomores play ‘03/U17, and so forth.
But no...Ecnl would rather lose 12-15 players every year at prime recruiting years. At every ecnl club across the nation.
