Great read! The US's dominance in women's soccer is slipping as their
athleticism is no longer the game changer it once was and other
countries have invested more in their programs and raised their
standards. I don't think the current U.S. system will be able to
maintain its edge. We're already seeing signs of this shift happening as
the USWNT lacks the necessary skill and game intelligence because many
of our players were brought up in an anti-developmental system.

Not the OP, but that's not really the point. It is getting harder and its going to keep going that way. We are becoming a country where all top athletes will be from families with money or the kids of former college or pro athletes. As the OP said, we are anti-developmental.

That 2023 WC team was arrogant, complacent and infected with the woke virus and had toxic, self-absorbed leaders. Was glad that they lost. Good riddance. Let's hope the next gen will be humble, modest, hard working and have a true love of the game, their country/fans and not themselves.

The direction we are heading, we are eliminating lower income families from development at younger and younger ages and creating "elite" teams.

Maybe lower income families shoild focus on education, not competing in sports that take a significant amount of time and resources for little long term return.

Well let's see here. Cutting the DA was simply a financial move.

But why would they need to cut costs?

Because the national teams spend most of the money.
