    Stop Distance Running training

While endurance is important, players should prioritize short sprints and core strength over long-distance running. A typical match consists of intermittent bursts of high-intensity activity interspersed with periods of light jogging or walking. Players rarely, if ever, run continuously for extended distances during a game. Take Leo Messi as an example: he spends much of the match walking, but his constant movement and ability to explode into action when needed make him exceptional. Training should reflect these game demands, focusing on repeated sprints and overall fitness rather than long-distance runs.

Stop telling your players to go out and run for miles.

A good aerobic base and maintenance is necessary for anaerobic efforts. If you don’t know shut the hell up.

Fortunately you aren’t running a program. Every single pro player and team have in depth endurance training regimens.

        Completely pointless. Won't help

Soccer is an anaerobic sport. It involves sprinting, changing speed and direction, jumping, landing, cutting and walking. Short interval sprints are far more beneficial than long distance running

You are full of it. Many soccer players cover 7+ miles per game. Endurance training improves late game performance, helps avoid in game fatigue to maintain technical and mental acuity, enables quicker recovery both in game after high intensity bouts and between games, and strengthens muscles tendons and ligaments to assist with injury prevention. Don’t take it out on everyone else because your little butterball can’t run a couple miles before taking a break to shove a fudgesicle down his gullet. We’ll keep running.

Football is perceived as a sport that requires continuous running, however soccer isn’t a continuous 7 mile run like some people believe (poster above). It’s a sport that depends on bouts of maximum force followed by a period of recovery—usually a walk or a very slow jog. Keep those things in mind.

Too much long-distance running—without focus on short sprints and other high intensity activity—can have a negative impact on an athlete’s speed and power.

Soccer requires endurance, quickness (explosiveness), and speed. Just because the speed and intensity is variable doesn't take away the endurance aspect. You need to train for each; preferably with targeted workouts. I suppose you could do a trail run which would do a pretty good job training all aspects, but it wouldn't be ideal.

Long-distance running can be helpful for endurance but only if there's an adequate recovery period before and after, which for most kids there room in the schedule for that with practices 3 or 4 days a week and games and scrimmages. Fatigue and overuse are likely to negate the benefits.
