Kid went to the EPD camp, coaches clearly looking for one style of player, kid was consistently placed on what looked like the “ignore” teams/fields. Any point in going to tryouts? Seems like they make their minds up pretty fast in what they like and then don’t give other kids the time of day. Does camp affect tryouts? Looking for experiences.

Attended the winter camp. Kids were basically split up into 4 teams. Did warm ups, then scrimmaged. Teams were rotated around so each would play each other. Only 3 goalkeepers so 1 game played with keepers and goals and the other game was played with pug goals. Couldn't say that the coaches were watching 1 game over the other, seemed to be equal. Were the coaches watching my kid when he'd do something World Cup worthy....of course not, had plenty of other kids to watch.
Last year the teams were largely pre-picked before tryouts, not sure how this year looks.

I have a question: Does your kid love soccer? Is Chid curious about new people and new situations?
When my kids were coming up we didn’t know about this crazy page, thank God. We just showed up at every opportunity to play soccer or whatever. Little b team tournaments or pick up.
People knew that our kids loved the game and they weren’t trying to vet opportunities by what VIP was going to be there or how it’s gonna move them forward towards some career and Soccer. But guess what you never know who you will meet and you never know who a coach will become in the future.
They’ve had stellar careers and the opportunity to travel the world and play pro. How’d it start.
Our kids played with much weaker teams for social reasons. Kids from blue collar families l.
The best times were meals, movies, or just kicking it. We built close bonds with the players and coaches. Family.
Turned out s coach or coaches were really connected.
Believe it or not, the world of youth soccer is real small. Friendship and authenticity goes a long way.
Real recognize real.
It’s like the rapper 50 Cent says, you’ll be as successful as the person you’re willing to talk to for no reason. Salah.

But I agree, overstrategizing is the path to unhappiness and failure.

Great story. Sounds like your kids were phenomenal athletes. Although how many similar kids with similar skills and youth trajectories might have been unlucky and never gotten the shot. It's always tough to know.

The DA era.had an unintentional negative effect on para-club programs and need restoration through player involvement. EPD is a great program that shouldn’t be judged because every player doesn’t get it’s full benefit.

But many had or are having great careers. One of my main points is drop the calculus and just go for it. Others might follow and there’s no real down.
