Would the best player on a Rec team start for a Select C team? Boys age 10 to 11. Help me. I can't figure this out on my own.

At EPD and ODP these players tend to respect each other a ton, and get along great.
My opinion, there are a handful of wpl players, maybe 4 or 5, that can make it on XF or SU, most of them play for Athletico. This would include 1 very good player who went from ECNL to WPL this year.
1 or 2 of them would be very important players on the team if they went to SU or XF.
Outside of XF and SU the rest of the teams in ECNL have been taking a ton of players from WPL this year! That is true for at least for 2011 age group.
Shop around it is definitely possible to go fron WPL to ECNL. Just have to find the right fit.

My son plays a lot in rcl and in WPL and does epd and sounders discovery. He mixes in with a lot of these players often. I don't think he could make either team, he loves the game though, and he might be close, but there are very good players in his position on both teams. If he could I don't know if he would be very impactful. I think he could make Eastside, Washington Premier, I know he could get on PAC, PDX, Snohomish etc.
He is having a good time and those ECNL teams aren't offering much more than he gets now when you consider EPD as a supplement. Only Crossfire and Seattle United are worth the move in our age group.
There are probably players in the WPL that could make these 2 teams but very few I would imagine. I don't know everything and don't analyze anymore than my familiarity with the families and kids in the age group.
Im just saying, based on what i have seen in this age group, WPL players can definitely make it on ECNL club in our state, XF and SU just really doesn't have many holes for a good player to fill, they are legitametly stacked.

At a young age, the most important things are playing time, having fun, being challenged and developing a love for the game. It’s far to easy to fall victim to the idea that you child must be on the best team, which more often than not isn’t the case. Those top teams have their own share of issues and the team dynamics are often not ideal for young players. In addition, the cost associated with them can be crazy and you run a high risk of burn out.
It’s unfortunate that we have a created a system that funnels players to these top teams, which in turn hurts the league competitiveness and drives players away from their local club. I prefer to keep my child at a local club, knowing we can’t expect to compete with XF and SU but aside from that we can compete with anyone else locally. My child gets all the playing time they want and a coach that is willing to provide them with opportunities to grow. We will see how this plays out in a year or two, but until they are ready to be scouted by colleges it doesn’t make a lot of sense to make a move elsewhere.
