I understand that Surf is for profit, but I’m appalled and surprised by the extra costs for everything. For example, $380 per player for the Empire Cup. Other clubs I’ve been at divide the fees evenly by the players attending, but Surf is charging each player $380 across the 21 teams going amounting to almost $100,000. This covers the meals but not transportation or hotel for the players. Then you have the Surf Cup where they are charging $550 per player going across all the teams. When asked Stacy Reeves says, “these are the fees. I’ve been doing this a long time.” Anyone have insight on these high fees? Or are we just set to pay a premium to play at Surf?

What is the empire cup? And why is it $380 for a select tournament no one has ever heard of and doesn’t matter?

Local tournaments like crossfire challenge and rush cup are included in team fees. Travel tournaments are extra, not hard to understand. Every club does this, it’s not a profit or non profit thing. If it’s too much for you just don’t go it’s not a big deal. Also It looks like Surf will organize 2 team dinners so it’s less of a hassle for parents.

Most clubs split the entry fee evenly per player and then parents are responsible for travel and lodging. Even including the coaches travel and accommodations, they’re still over collecting ~$2500+ per team.

This isn’t surprising considering XF is charging families 6k for one tournament and hotel in Europe and people are lined up to pay I suspect we will be seeing very high tournament fees from here on out. There is no shortage of rich parents of the eastside who don’t give a f. Honestly a lot of these parents like it because it limits competition for their kids spot. By the time you figure auction, privates, travel I’d guess well north of 20k a year is the new going rate.
These coaches don’t have other ways to make real money at msft or google…. They are just working there hustle the best they can figure.
