    XF Tony Mercado

Any comments on Tony as a coach? Good, bad? Is he good at developing young players? Coaching assignment has him for 2017 (U8) and 2013 (U12). Appreciate any insights

His previous U8 C team just won the Div1 state cup on Sunday. Make of that what you will.

His C team won 3 trophies this past year. Zipfizz cup, Vegas Invitational, and Presidents cup. A C level team…

Disclaimer: I am a parent on that C team.

Tony also brought his cheerleader from the B16 C team to B17. The best soccer dad I have ever seen. No, I am not Josh. He organized extra trainings and scrimmages for the whole team. That’s one of the reasons the team has improved so much.

Making kids really excited about football is one of the most important drivers of their development. And don't expect coaches to do that, most of the time they are not excited about football themselves.

You're actually scouting for a U8 player? Seriously?

What exactly are you surprised about? That the parent is concerned about picking the right coach for the kid? At what age kids deserve good coaches then?

When was the last time a coach took a XF C team to the President Cup Div1 championship before ECNL ages? More than half of the kids on that team got promoted to A and B during the tryout this year.

Mr. Mercado is the master of your kid's first year at XF. He gives them the discipline, makes sure they are running and also staying in position, and forces them to pass and work together. He tells the parents who want to influence him to **** off and stop them from screaming 'just boot it!' or 'go all the way!' on the sideline. Not many parents like him, but his approach works well in putting a bunch of 7 years olds to play together. I particularly enjoyed the telling influencer parents to **** off part.

Whether his approach works for older kids is a separate question.

Not the same poster, but you need the right coach if you want to have fun or the right coach if you want to go pro, those are different coaches most of the time.

Dude stop hyping this up. You are making it sound like they were better than the A team.
B team was mostly play-ups (and now play for the A team that got formed for them) and most of the A teams played up a year in a U9 Cup. It's not a big deal to win the U8 President's Cup if you are actually U8. I also saw a bunch of C team players practicing privately at Marymoor, so who is actually responsible for developing the kids: coach, private coach or the parents?
