Looking for a club 9U.
Just moved to the Snohomish area. Im looking for a club for my son. Any recommendations? Ive heard Snohomish United is a good club?? Sound FC was recommended as well. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

You'd be driving right past Sound FC to get as far as LWPFC in Redmond. And don't believe 35 minutes from Snohomish to Redmond until you check Google maps for yourself at 5 or 6 pm on a weekday to see how much time it really takes to get to practices at practice time. That's a long drive to get a 9U to practice when there are good alternatives closer by.Originally posted by Guest View Post

This is obviously a joke post from a joke club. According to their website the youngest boys team they have is a single U10 boys team and as others have noted you to drive past Sound and NSC and XF premier and XF select that are both going to have at least 4 , U9 teams at each XF side.Originally posted by Guest View PostComment

Assuming the goal is to find a "premier" club, here's what I'd suggest. First, realize that not every coach is right for every kid, and if a kid has a positive or negative experience with a coach, that reflects on the parent's opinion of the club. Therefore, you can't take what any parent posts on the chatboard about a coach or a club as being what's going to be the right recommendation for your kid.
Before tryouts, try and get ahold of the club and find where their 9Us are going to practice. If they can't give you a single answer or say they use multiple fields, take the field locations for that club, do a Google Maps (or equivalent on another platform), plot the time it's going to take to get the kid to practice and back (say to practice by 5, home afterwards leaving the field at 6:15) and average them. Then, and this will take a bit more homework, check last year's standings and see how many teams each club had at 9U. The more teams, the more likelihood that the club will be able to place your kid appropriately (in the opinion of that club's coaching staff). Posters on the chatboard will be quick to hijack it with the observation that coaches are only looking for the biggest, fastest kids but you're not looking for ideal developmental placement at 9U that will put your kid on a path to international superstardom. You're looking for an environment that will provide a reasonable first experience for your kid, when you're new to a community (and the sometime ridiculously incomprehensible soccer landscape that surrounds your new community), without driving farther than you have to. Depending on where you live in relation to Snohomish, Snohomish United, Sound FC, or Rush could all be a reasonable fit for the first year. Again, this is for "premier". The "select" options I can think of in the area are more hit-and-miss, or probably a farther drive than you're looking for.
During the first season, you can start looking at the results and standings, get a feel for things on the sidelines, see how your kid does, and develop your own opinions rather than relying on the other opinions that are shared so vociferously on this chatboard. Assuming your kid likes the game and enjoys the environment, you may decide to stick around for at least a few more years or you might jump ship to another club after year one. That doesn't mean you made a bad decision. It means you hadn't acquired the information set yet to make the best decision for both you and your kid.
