Seems a lot of ECNL players skip it. Why is that? Don't want to get injured? Doesn't do anything for their career?

Probably not helpful or useful for their future aspirations. Plus what a let-down, being coached by a part-timer when they've been getting top level ECNL coaching year round.
Which makes me wonder, why isn't there any club soccer during the high school season at the select or WPL level? At least in the KC Eastside area the HS teams are pretty much occupied by ECNL and RCL B-team players - and that too only a subset. There are plenty of kids who would like to keep playing soccer year round. The leagues and clubs are missing an opportunity here.

It's a great experience for the kids. Go to any Ballard versus Lincoln HS soccer game and you'll see a bunch of SU ECNL and top RCL kids out there having a blast.

Are ECNL players skipping on the boys side? I heard that XF is allowing their players to play HS for the first time in a long time this year.

Playing high school ball brought fun back into the game. Get to play with some old friends and make some new friends. Face it club teams do not create friendships. To much competition and that player maybe take your spot at tryouts.
high school teams you get to play with teammates you had growing up. They are long time friends.
