Coach Claire Knock for older kids

Can anyone who had daughters on Claire's teams share their insights? As she transitions to coaching an ECNL age team after being an EDP coach, I'm curious about her coaching style. Does she offer constructive feedback? Is her approach focused on player development or more inclined towards a "kick the ball and be physical" strategy? Do players understand their roles in games? Is there a perception of favoritism? Additionally, what's the team atmosphere like? Is it a tight-knit and supportive group, or is there an atmosphere of fear, unhealthy competition, and jealousy among the players?

Yes, Claire has built a reputation of playing favorites and is a purely political coach. She picks her favorites/non-favorites (largely based on who she feels dominant to and can control) from early in the premier season and makes coaching decisions based on that , which sometimes hurts the team. She is known for her “boot it and run” style of play instead of focusing on more long term approaches, like player development. She excessive showboats victories within her club (have no idea how the club puts up with this) and taunts other teams after wins. Most coaches, even at her home club, despise her for it, She portrays team unity amongst her teams and “sister” teams but most of it is all for show. At tryouts at the ECNL level, she will focus solely on selecting the large physical players to go along with her poor game strategy. Hopefully she sees her way out of the PNW and probably will sooner than later as everyone begins to see how she operates.

Once again, it seems like there are no good coaches anywhere. Or no reasonable parents.

Seriously is there one coach that doesn’t get ripped to shreds here?

I think you are the OP of this thread.

So how is this differ from any other Washington club? XFC? SU? WP? They all boot it. They all are physical, they don’t care about player development, otherwise why have tryouts? Why have cuts?

The problem is that we parents expect a much higher level of coaching and player development given the club fees and time commitment we forking over for “premier-level” soccer.

In my experience the coaching is not better than Select level soccer. Although the talent level of the team and opponents is much higher.

When paying $4k for club fees, $500 for gear, and practicing 3 to 4x per week for 10 months, we have a right to complain if the clubs can’t even provide competent coaches.

She needs to be written up to Safe Sport. This is bullying and toxic behavior.

this is not true. No favorites. She has been pretty fair. At younger ages and if there’s no designated goalie that day she will put a player on goal as consequence after missing games/practices. But again, sounds fair to me.

EFC overall has a strong focus on winning games at any cost. When the red (A ) team beats the white (B) team which is what you should expect anyway, they still post it on instagram. And these are other coaches’ teams, not Claire’s. Now, I think it’s ridiculous to be posting you’ve beat your own B team, but this is what the parents who manage the instagram accounts like to do. It is what it is. This is the culture at Eastside, take it or leave it.

She is generally well liked. And you are projecting. Sad to be hating on a soccer coach. Seriously.

Well, this one is just bull****. Lots of smaller well-deserving players on her teams. We are new to Eastside and both of my smaller/skinnier players both got selected for the top teams. It has nothing to do with size. Sorry your daughter wasn’t selected. But if she works hard and stays focused hopefully she can make the ECNL next season.

Have her keep up the good work and you quit wining about the coach “playing favorites”. If she made the B team this season, that’s the best place for her development right now. Good luck.
