Ditching team to play in ODP?

It rubs me the wrong way that all of these supposed great players ditch their teams to go participate in ODP events. No loyalty whatsoever. What lessons are they learning? How to be self absorbed jerks? Look at all the stars who decided to forgo crossfire challenge, they let their teams and their teammates down. Not superstars in my book.

It’s a summer tournament. Relax. ODP is a joke yes. But summer tournaments mean nothing.

Some kids and parents put a bigger emphasis on epd and ODP. Being on a team seems to an inconvenience to them. Soccer is a team sport and this individual glory stuff goes against it. I think it hurts these kids in the long run, they should be fully invested in their team and the success of the team at all costs.

That's Garbage. Athletes should be seeking individual opportunities, for several reasons. Does ODP offer more for your kid than the team? maybe no but maybe yes. If you team is competing on the same level as ODP than you should probably stay with your team an work on chemistry, so the team can better compete. if your team does not compete on the same level as ODP, Your kid should go to ODP or find a team that best matches his/her competitive level. Case in point tons of kids play for MT. Rainier, or Cosmos, or Highline, etc etc. Why do they leave? Usually becuase the potential of the kid has moved past the potential of the team.

Get over it, If your kid is on a mid level team and has a kid with high level talent that kid will be seeking opportunities whether that is ODP or a High Level team.

You are just hating. It is the same thing as when you left your rec club or local club to go to the club you are at now, the talent around your kid wasnt good enough to sustain them.

If it helps, my kid was selected to go to ODP West, we elected to stay back with, but I understand why any one would choose to go.

XF has specifically said it does not want their players engaging in epd, but they never come out and say why.

This is why. Bad for team morale, creates unnecessary drama. If someone commits to a team they should play every game. What’s the point of ODP anyways? Totally pointless, just there to inflate the egos of parents.

Would you have complained if the US internationals who play in Europe had ditched their summer training / preseason schedule to play in the Gold Cup?

I know right! Horrible really that they provide opportunities for high potential players. Jerks.

It’s not a solo sport, kids commit to their teams but bail at first opportunity for selfish glory. Bad lessons all around in my opinion.
