I think what they mean by comical at the younger ages is possibly the coaches they have in place. They lost their 2012 coach, their 2013 coach seems to be more interested in the 2014 team he used to coach, that he is losing players to rec clubs like 90+.
I don't know what is going on at Sounders at the younger ages other than keeping kids on regional teams for as long as they do is possibly hurting them competitively.

I’m not sure how public it is. We’re not a part of Surf but also heard Chad is going to focus on his role as a a director next year.

Might be a good thing. He will probably still be at all of the academy style practices, and then have the ability to jump around and help with different teams.

Spokane might never have teams that can compete on the boys side, but he can help some players develop.
