    ECNL Houston Selection Game

Why aren’t the top players representing this region in the ECNL selection game? None of the recent USYNT team call ups from PAC, EFC, or XF. Is the selection game not about skills this event? Or have the skilled players already participated?

The ECNL director for a club would recommend players to participate. It’s up to the ECNL to select them

Might be to get kids who are under the radar exposurewise a look from college coaches.

          (1) you are assuming that the call up are the next players or best potential players on the team.

          (2) you are assuming that the select games is about putting the best players or the best potential players on the field.

Having seen this on the girls side, both are not the case.

favorites and follow the money might be a place to start.

          just my thoughts.

They have a selection game at every showcase, and don’t seem to take the same players multiple times. There does seem to be some combination of boosting exposure for uncommitted players, clubs picking favorites who others wouldn’t necessarily think are their top players, and genuinely showcasing top players involved.

People are confusing selection game with "All-Star" game. I know that many select unsigned players to help get them more exposure. I wouldn't get too wound up in the selection, it's not a game of the best players.

This is how ECNL describes the game. “The Continental Tire ECNL National Selection Games are “all-star” matches that bring top players at each regular season ECNL National Event together for representative competition on the first day of the event.”

Having watched many of them I would disagree :).

Seattle United has a G06 playing in Houston Selection game this weekend. They have had a G05 or G06 in the last 4 selection games -except the TN one that was canceled . All are now D1 commits- UW, Gonzaga, USC, Cal

point is, I think coach recommendation plays a big part in getting a deserving player out there. The coaching director for SU is also on the UW men’s coaching staff.

Maybe at SU it’s about skills. Maybe at XF it about brown nosing. There are some great players on XF that were over looked and at EFC.

I think original SU post above was about a coach/club’s ability to network and get an uncommitted player some visibility & showcase time.

These games are rostered not necessarily as the best of their age group - but good enough that someone is working to get them looks and into this game.

If your kid IS the best of their age group and your DOC isn’t putting that time in, either you or your kid do it thru self promotion, independent consultant, or change club
