    XF Premier and XF Select

This has probably been on the board at some point but cant find it. Is there any relation between the two? player movement? finances? does bernie get a cut from xf select?

they are related all under the LWYSA umbrella. There is movement between the two, you usually see a few select try their hand at training with some of the younger teams and (usually) shown they are not quite there. I knowof a few who have successfully made the jump from select to different premiere teams and it works out. But the kid has to want the extra commitment that premier/ECNL carries.

They are completely separate financially and do not operate in concert. They don't work together at all, use different fields for training. If anything Bernie encourages animosity between the two clubs. You will never see cross training, guest players or scrimmages etc. Kids from select usually make the 3rd team when they try out at premier with the odd kid making the second team.

Unless you’re Kevin Legg, who added a select player for his 2011 team. Not the best choice he’s made but he’s coach and he likes larger players.

It all depends on the player and the family. Is the family willing to put the time into a fully committed year round program with tournaments throughout the year? Is the player committed to an increase in training? My two made the move from select to high premier teams and love it. It's been a great experience for them in multiple ways. They both had good experiences with select thanks to coaches.

Both under LWYSA but Select doesn't have a foundation to hide their money outside the association so they contribute more than their fair share into the association coffers. There's nothing between the 2 clubs, probably the closest you get to co-operation is borrowing a few players back and forth during summer tourneys and the annual bumping of select players during tryouts for those that are fed up with premier. Select "licenses" the use of the brand Crossfire from Premier.

The bigger topic of discussion should be why Select prices have doubled in the past 5 years and why they have a DOC that works a few hours a day making over 6 figures between his salary and camps.
