You can do that and also try to win. They do keep a score.
Funny, the athletes seem to always be asked to let all participate.

I do not see that happening in the classroom.

Do we give everyone “As” for showing up for class?

No, you earn your A. Parents would go nuts if all were given 4.0s.

In sports, you earn your playing time. That is why they keep score.

Having said all of this, in our league, we had plenty of games to where all the girls got plenty of playing time.

The problems was in a few big games, certain players should not have touched the field.

we got the lead in a critical game, the coach went to participation mode, and we lost the game. The lost put us in a bad spot for district, thus, cheating the players out of a deserved position to try and get to state.

that happens all over the state/country, subpar coaches losing games for their teams. agree it's frustrating. not much you can do except move your player/student. you do have that option with open enrollment in WA and many private schools to choose from

If you do it in the middle of HS yes you lose a year, but if you transfer in the 8th-9th grade window you retain all eligibility. Most kids aren't wanting to transfer in the middle of HS anyway

Varsity is just a bunch of girls getting frustrated when she does a feint and swatting her legs out from under her.
However little Susie has played the whole game to win for their whole time playing at the cost of development. Win at all costs!

High school soccer, generally, is recreational soccer.

While some high schools do focus on wins, I'm pretty sure the state HS association makes it clear that academics and sportsmanship are to come first. And many superintendents, principals, and athletic directors agree with that. Parents and kids may not like it--and unlike club, you can't just switch to another high school (unless you move).

You can always opt not to play--do private training, play in adult leagues, or something else, during the high school season. But chances are, if the coach described above has been doing this for a long time, she's been doing it with the full approval of her chain of command, and the complaints from Suzie All-Star's mom that "why do you insist on playing those girls, they suck!" will be ignored.

It's not club. It's not meant to be. It's a short season, not a full-year's worth of training. And given that the coach has little control over who shows up at tryouts, don't sweat it.

Just let your daughter go out and have fun with her friends and rep her school.

I would tend to agree with you that varsity should be prioritizing being competitive with the rest of the program prioritizing participation. That being said, does your daughter feel cheated or just you? She may have considered the season a success for other reasons. You don't want to undermine that.

At our school there are kids on varsity and jv that get very little minutes or none. If they don't play they swing them down to the lower teams for minutes that week. They put my freshman on C at first, but she ended up playing full minutes in most jv games in addition to C team games, and was subbing for varsity the last few weeks. She played in 4-5 games a week the whole season. Have no idea what the rules are supposed to be, but it was an insane amount of soccer.

They are not supposed to play in more than two halves per day.

If you weren't comfortable with it, why did you allow it?
