Holy Names will be strong again.

Holy Names lost a lot of very good players. Will be interesting to see whether some of the strong players who opted out of spring due to ECNL conflicts play hs, but Roosevelt, Eastside Catholic and Lakeside all should be strong in metro, with Prep, Holy Names, and Blanchett all strong as well but maybe a step behind the first three.

Would you guys recommend HS soccer if your kid is on the top team of a big club and is considered on the top tier within the team?
I suppose HS means more games, more connections, but also it would take away focus from the club.

I had a kid who was a strong DA player on a good team. Played hs first two years but couldn’t play junior or senior year due to DA. Hs team was pretty good and coach was great, but didn’t really miss hs and loved year round culture and environment of DA team. But DA is gone now on the girls side, snd it wasn’t for everyone anyway and had its problems. Now there aren’t many great reasons to skip hs — maybe if the hs program and coach are very weak and you can train regularly with boys or the reign pro team. But the top hs teams all have 10-15 ECNL or GA level players from various age groups and provide a good mixed age training environment during the hs season, in addition to the various positives of being more a part of the school culture and community, having a chance to be a leader in a school activity, and having a chance to compete for a district or state championship (which ultimately would likely be one of the more memorable experiences in the kid’s fleeting soccer life, particularly given that many of the top players from strong teams will end up being role players in college).

above poster is absolutely correct and hits all the relevant points.

bellevue hs should be tough in 3A this year, returns 10 seniors from a team that went 8-0 last season

yes, High school soccer puts the fun back into game. Club games have so much pressure. The players are not having fun on the field. Playing with and against their buddies really makes soccer fun again.

That is a good point, it is fun. Still I could see someone arguing that a very top level player really should focus on club only.

If they are really top level (sounders academy) then they have no choice but to focus on club only with hs play being prohibited. Anyone else would likely benefit from and enjoy hs soccer

Roosevelt has a cupcake schedule compared to the rest of the teams you laid out.

True. Rather than having everyone play each other once Metro divides everyone into two divisions, one of which is relatively strong, and has everyone play the teams in their division twice plus a random draw of cross-division games. Leads to some pretty unbalanced schedules (and lopsided scorelines in the weaker division) but it all sorts itself out in playoffs.

Metro is not doing split this year. The teams will play everyone once. There will still be some lopsided games. But it means that there will be more games and more soccer.

I have a U17G ECNL player unable to play HS due to eligibility issues but she has an opportunity to play with a boy's club during the season. Thoughts on what the appropriate age group/level would be? She could practice with B or C teams.

                              Not true.
The private schools all play each other twice (8 games each). The public schools may play two of the Metro private schools each. It is a shame.
