Wow. This is nice. I want to see a ten year old in the NWSL drop hat tricks. That’s the stuff that gets replays on the news.

If NWSL can get whole teams of ten year olds wouldn’t that be something special.

Maybe a nine year old in NWSL will be the next level up. How hi can you go?

I heard the 2010 Thorns team was the best in the state 😂
Assume they will be training with the first team soon.

This is exactly the kind of thing we need to draw ratings. Ten year old girls dominating 25 year old international players. Put that in the evening news.

Fun stuff for certain. Hope is the thorns snag the U10 girl. If she’s as good as advertised that’ll be fun days at the ball park.

I think most of them have 2nd jobs like waitressing or cashier at Walgreens.

These women are old enough to be dealing with relationships, alcohol, legal weed, and drama.

I feel bad this kid is losing childhood. A healthy childhood and a great college experience can’t be replaced later on with money. Nobody cares about NWSL. It’s kinda fun but that’s it.

Also, be nice everyone. I know the dad is on here looking for validation.
Alcohol and weed are both legal. If you want to be all judgey let’s get our facts straight.

Happy to hear this. Hope you get a big fatty contract and all you can eat concessions on game day.

No one is jealous. Most find it sad this kid hasn't had a normal life. Dozens of players at her level managed to do so and still develop into top talent. We've also seen plenty of promising athletes or entertainers burned out by pushy parents. People hope that doesn't happen here. No one wants to see her fail.

                    bull sh1t.

The level of fake concern for Ms. Moultrie here is laughable. I can imagine the lot of you felling sorry for 13-year-old Leo Messi, being signed to a Barca contract, comparing him with Adu or Marinovich or other child prodigies who didn't pan out.

All of you would give your eyeteeth for your DD to be in her place, or for OM to be at your club. Don't lie, we can see straight through you.

It’s sad but if it’s good for parents, then why not. What’s the risk?

You’d be surprised how many pro athletes smoke and drink. I assumed body is a temple, but apparently body is a night club.

Nothing wrong with having a 2nd job. A lot of us did it in college.

Wow only ten? Roll the dice and show em what you can do. Get you a fat old sponsor contract and you’re on Easy Street.

I know most parents would say it’s a bad idea but who cares what the intellectuals think. Money talks. You know what walks.

I'd let my kid drive her own bus if she had the skills and drive to get herself there. It wouldn't be my career but hers. And for sure I would do everything possible to make sure they had as balanced, normal kid-life as possible. That would include going to school with her peers and waiting longer to mature before making such a life decision.

Not only is she no Messi 😉 but there isn't the same need to commit so young in the women's game. Even Messi was an unusual case. Countless professional players commit around 16 and flame out, most having ignored their education along the way.

Rats. My kid is 11. Is she too old? She’s just like Ronaldo.

Depends. Agree that Messi is an unusual case--he's Leo freaking Messi, after all--but there's a reason that Barca was so hot to sign him--he could do things with a ball at a young age that pros much older could not. And he had legit medical concerns that made him a BIGGER risk than your standard precocious teenager. But teenage boys signing with pro clubs while in high school is No Big Deal, and a boy at that age is further away from peak physical maturity (for men, around 26) than is a girl (for women, closer to 22).

About the only argument I've seen here that makes any sense is that the expected value of a pro career for an elite-level female player is far far less than for men. Messi's current contract pays him about US$35M per year (contract is in Euros, so this is a converted figure); no female soccer player will even approach that. And even the best female players make less than what top-league rotation players will make. So perhaps chasing D1 is, for many girls, a better option.

But Moultrie forfeited her college career when she signed with Nike. We don't know the terms of her Thorns contract, but I bet it is worth more than most D1 scholarships, unless we're talking full-ride at Stanford or similar.

But all the suggestions that she's an above-average at best player who has fooled the entire soccer world with a social media campaign, are stupid in the extreme. It's like some washed-up actress in Hollywood waiting tables and wondering who Meryl Streep slept with to get all those good parts (and Oscars), because Hollywood is full of girls and women who are just as good.
