I think it is probably public information, but anyone know how much college head coaches get for women's soccer?

It seems like a really sweet gig if you get paid well.

        Kagan was getting $120k.

Not getting rich, but that is good money for the job.

And don't have to work either. Maybe MK took a look at KL and decided he was in the wrong segment of the market.

From all I have heard, this has nothing to do with anything from his past. He expected a lot of work and effort from his players, a lot, which is why they improved so much. However, a huge roster of more than 2/3 disgruntled players that aren’t playing but are still expected to work just as hard leads to complaints to admin. When 2/3 of a team sits the bench that can easily lead to too many complaints for admin to ignore in a non revenue sport no one cares about. College ball is a rude awakening to many players who have been coddled as the star of their youth team but admin doesn’t need the headache from a non revenue sport. From what I heard, the new Duck coach took a different route. He came in and culled the roster of all the new recruits and players he didn’t foresee playing. Was brutally honest with them and helped them transfer. Smaller roster, remaining players will play & be happier, the ones who left will be happier on their new teams and he freed up scholarship money to offer to better recruits, including several internationals. More important, those unwanted players aren’t sitting around getting disgruntled and complaining to admin, even if some of their complaints are valid. My guess is OSU will now be sure to hire a coach who will coddle the large roster, make everyone happy and OSU will happily stay on the bottom. OSU doesn’t really care how well it’s women’s soccer team does, it just doesn’t want any headaches. Oregon, on the other hand, wants to be a power house in every sport and will do what it takes to rise. Women’s soccer is one of the last teams at Oregon to be a perennial bottom ranked team. Admin is with the new coaches on wanting to change that.

Great story on what you "think" happened at OSU - but it is just that a story!

Players that are disgruntled are not going to Admin complaining about playing time. Coaches are smart enough to dangle the carrot of playing time to keep the kids hungry and thinking that they may get in any game. Stop with that nonsense.

Men's coach is listed in this document at getting 187K per year.

Lol a PAC-12 team isn’t going to fire a coach just because kids complained about playing time. Since he was fired only after two years, there must be a lot more to the story. That’s too much resources wasted and money wasted if Scott Barnes decided to fire a coach just because kids were complaining about not playing. Playing time and keeping the players happy that aren’t playing is an issue on every single team. Is expected. That alone won’t get a coach fired after only two years.

I don’t know where you are getting your sources from. But this is not why he got fired at all. His first year the team did improve yes, but look at this year..

Agree. Dont know but the situation looks prime for this outcome and have heard the rumors. They aren’t stupid enough to complain about “playing time”, they are mad about playing time and often find ways to get back at the coach. These players all know what they need to say to get an investigation. Bullying, mental health, verbal abuse… Not an easy situation for coaches. Especially coaches hired to turn around lack luster programs in tough conferences. If you’ve ever played collegiate athletics, you know how easy it would be to label many instances with those key words. Much easier for admin to get rid of the headache by hiring an appeaser coach in a sport they dont care about.

Other comments about this. Don’t know if this is the case this time but sure seems like a definite possibility:

“Do not know about the situation there, but college athletics is making a mockery of mental health these days. Players know what words to use to their advantage like "mental health". Admin are to afraid to tell the athletes college athletics is supposed to be hard and admin only really care about themselves looking good so it's easier to pay someone to go away and avoid a kid or their parents crying on social media, going to the news, or having a law suit like we are seeing more and more these days. It is the first time in their lives these kids are not being chosen, and can not handle it.”

“Agree. This is just another case where a coach is tasked to change and improve a program but some spoiled family doesn't like the outcome/truth and then uses the key buzz words that lead to a dismissal. Pathetic that admins continue to cave to this and not support a coach. It's even more pathetic parents support this approach instead of teaching their entitled kid to fight, commit and work for something in life.”

Yeah it’s obvious you aren’t directly involved in what was going on with the players and the coaching staff. I think before you guys blame the players and accuse them for being “spoiled” , you should just recognize that you aren’t directly involved in the situation, and have no idea what it was like to play for him. To fire a coach after two years, there had to be inappropriate behavior going on. He did not turn the program around. He had one good year and then the year sucked. Pretty sure OSU had the same amount of pac12 wins from last year. Do your research before you talk. You obviously aren’t involved in the situation. You’re using mental health as an excuse. Guess what you need to perform well? Good mental health. Obviously the team didn’t have that this year.

Athletic Departments deal with parents and players every season and it's nothing new since the 1990’s when parents became very involved. The training staff and counselors deal with the mental health of all the athletes in the department. These teams aren’t on an island, the athletic department staff knows what is going on with the teams, especially at OSU. AD’s and SWA’s are willing to work with new coaches and help work with athletes if there are issues. If there is a problem with player coach interactions then a success plan is developed for the coaching staff. This all went down quick.

None of this has anything to do with player coach dealings at OSU. This is altogether something else.
