Thorns Academy adds Regional ECNL Teams

This was just posted on the Thorns Academy site:

The continued collaboration between the Thorns FC, Thorns Academy, and our partner club, Westside Timbers, has allowed us the opportunity to expand our program offering to include the ECNL Regional League beginning with this upcoming season.

The ECNL Regional League is a platform, now offered on a Conference by Conference basis, to ECNL member Clubs. This offering allows clubs to expand their player pools by providing opportunities to the second-tier teams to train and compete at a higher level.

Thorns Academy, in partnership with Westside Timbers, is proud to announce that they will join their Northwest conference partners in adding ECNL Regional teams for the 2021-22 season.

We are excited by this expansion and ability to increase the player pool for the Thorns Academy. This will increase opportunities for development and playing time and additional visibility for more players.

    Team Formation
Thorns Academy ECNL Regional League teams will be formed at the U19, U17, U16, and U15 age groups for the 2021/2022 Season.

The U19 team will play exclusively in the ECNL Regional League
The U17, U16, and U15 teams, in addition to playing in the ECNL Regional League, will also compete in the OYSA Premier Division and compete in State Cup under the Westside Timbers name

Overview and Benefits of Regional League
Players selected for the Regional League Teams will receive the following benefits:

Seriously. Run from this like your life depended on it. Even their first teams don’t get everything that is advertised and all you are doing is paying more to play for westside.

ECNL regional league lol. As if there wasn’t enough of ECNL scam selling out there.

Personally I wouldn’t touch their first teams with a 10 foot pole. It’s advertised as one thing and a mess once you join. Trust me.

Thorns Academy: 90% on marketing, 10% on substance.

Just ask someone who’s been there. There is a good chance they will tell you this too.

If they can sell you they don’t have to prove anything.

Will THUSC be putting their non-CU teams in this league?

(FC should put all their ECNL teams here).

This is absolutely true. What a mess.

                Seriously, what a sham.

Play in OYSA as westside but play in the crappy ecrl as thorns academy?

I wouldn’t even go to their first teams as some of them are dysfunctional but this?

Sums up the thorns academy right there. Bait and switch.

Extra opportunity for the oysa teams! Looks good to me, especially with fewer teams in oysa starting this fall due to several clubs joining GAL for their A teams. Hate all the negativity. This will be great for some players. If you don’t want to do it, don’t.

There is negativity for a reason. And no we wouldn’t do it.

They got this response because the thorns every year is a smoke and mirrors game of offering everything and delivering on very little. Even in their announcement they say you can be part of of the thorns but you ll be at broke westside playing OYSA.

Smoke and mirrors. Right up there with this joke of a ECRL league. Putting teams like westside and CUs B teams that are mediocre in Oregon in a regional league of other crappy teams.

Why travel that far when you can’t even beat the teams around you. Sounds like fc Portland on every age.

There are a lot of players who this program would be good for. Just because you aren't quite up to the ENCL level or don't want to have that big of a commitment, you should not be stuck playing crap in Oregon. Maybe it's the A- team.

No. Thorns are not good for anyone. Well maybe the toxic types. You will see.
