    RTC/ODP Tournament?

My daughter is doing the RTC tournament tomorrow. Boys side played today. What is ODP for U11/U12? I thought the Timbers/Thorns youth programs did not start until U13.

ODP for U11&U12 isn't year round like the older levels. I think they come together to train and scrimmage a few times and then play in the Timbers Friendship Cup tournament (if they have it this year). It is also a good opportunity to take a look at girls for the Pre-Academy program.

You would be 100x better off hiring a good personal trainer instead of doing RTC. Maybe 150x better off.

As the parent of multiple kids that are now off playing high level college soccer I can give feedback. We did RTC/ODP for a while. It was large number of kids and the coach wasn't that impressive. The trip to Arizona for the inter-regional tournament was the only positive. That was an enjoyable trip. The training overall was nothing to write home about. The large numbers of kids at trainings made it difficult to manage. My kids all thought they knew more about soccer tactics than their RTC/ODP coaches. They didn't feel like the learned much at all.

            Overall, I would not recommend.

All of my kids made leaps and bounds improvements working with a private trainer. You have to find the good ones and they aren't cheap. We got very lucky and found a great one. It was very expensive but the results were excellent.

Thank you. I did not know if there was travel involved, or if it was local. I assume the training is additionally to the club training they do?

They have 16 sessions on Sunday evenings split between late fall/early winter, and late winter/early spring. A great deal of time spent on footwork and small sided games. In my opinion it's about the best $400 spent. I understand that some folks haven't had the greatest experiences, but the South and West Portland groups seem pretty dialed in.
Today was the RTC tournament where they brought together all of the different regions from around the state to scrimmage each other. They were also evaluating the players and picking the U11 & U12 ODP teams from this group.

Yes, we did the tournament today. This was her first year doing RTC, and she enjoyed it for the most part. Her coach was mentioning being evaluated for ODP. I was just wondering what ODP involved for the younger ages. I didn't realize they had an ODP pool for U11/U12 ages.

This is what your wife said about you. Don’t give up. Try harder.
