HS Culmination Week

A little late. A well crafted meaningful, regional & competitive culmination week plan for all levels Boys & Girls Soccer was presented to the Executive Board last week by OSAA staff member Kris Welch the plan was constructed by the OSAA Soccer contingency committee formed last Spring 2020 at the start of the pandemic. They (OSAA exec board) did not approve n it-- oddly kicking the culmination week activities back to the 'schools' for the time being, whatever the heck that means. They (exec board) are so far out of touch with reality, they don't have the capacity to realize that Soccer has been played without any real issues since July in Oregon (wearing a mask, no spectators, refs masked up, no post game hand shakes, bench social distancing--all in compliance) it's truly an embarrassment these elected rural OSAA board members are this clueless. But they did muscle the Governor with pleas of crying parents to allow the prohibited sport of Contact Football to be played at the 12th hour. Go figure. A team of genius's for sure. Hee-Haw.

Well north of the boarder Soccer and Football have started athletes are required to wear mask at all times . With only basically parents allowed to come watch Soccer for girl's and Football no one allowed . It's a bit silly being a outdoor sport , but at least kids are allowed to play .

Its a bunch of people who drew the shortest straw and have to go have a catered lunch every so often to fulfill a work requirement. I don't think there is anyone who knows about sports. I could be wrong. Not an impressive group in my opinion.

It looks like 4a took matters into their own hands for all sports, and 6a worked out a way for the top boys and girls soccer teams to play for a championship. Too bad 5a and 3a/2a/1a got left out in the cold. What a strange year. The only thing that feels remotely normal is Jesuit girls will be champs again. Hooray.

Jesuit defeats the purpose of high school sports. Most schools are competing with kids in their own geographic boundaries. Except Jesuit and a few other schools. They should be in the private school bucket. Jesuit has a permanent asterisk next to all wins.

Not a fan of Jesuit at all but at least they stay in 6a when they could make a case for 5a with their enrollment. Some of the other private schools use their enrollment to play down for easier wins (looking at you, “4a by a technicality” Eugene Marist). I like the idea of a private school league - let the privileged private lessons club sports kids fight it out for the right to lose to Jesuit in the finals.

It's a Final Four tournament. Jesuit (G) and Lincoln (G) won the tourneys.

Maybe next year will be your chance to play at Providence Park or not.

It's the only 6A championship end of season tourney I know of. Jus sayin.

3a championship

Not that it matters, but 3A-1A does have a championship going. It's just that the Portland area teams either opted not (or were not allowed, idk) to play in it. St. Mary's Medford, Sutherlin, Santiam Christian, and Pleasant Hill are the remaining four.

The final game should be on Saturday, after tonight's semifinals.

Who is Monty? And I'm usually not this person, but I think the Timbers missed a great opportunity here to not just let rich schools play at the stadium since it wasn't actually a playoff. How nice would it have been for the kids from say Centennial or Glencoe to get the chance to play at that publicly owned field? Instead, Lincoln and Jesuit? I understand Lincoln is without a field right now, but ... Not a huge deal because no one cares, but it doesn't look good.

The opportunity to play at the Timbers/Thorns Providence Park was a great for the 8 boys & girls HS teams.

Found an article about the backstory of how the 6A Final 4 event came together, really pretty cool during covid and no OSAA playoffs.
