ODP Revised Deadline Today

ODP revised tryout registration deadline today.

PROS
- Centralize talent regardless of what league a player regularly plays in
- Player improvement. Talent practices against talent
- Chance for regional camp invite

CONS
- $400 cost, this said, travel cost reduced due to regional championships being cancelled, friendship cup is local and regional camp everyone in West region comes here to UP in summer
- Local coaches feel threatened by ODP being run by Timbers. Many coaches downplay value of ODP as a result and some talented players don’t register. This approach only hurts players’ opportunities to grow. Coaches “claim” their program is enough to get a kid to college, ignoring that ODP’s goal is to centralize top talent together uniquely aiding a player’s development.

NEUTRAL
- Coaching. Players, not the coaches, are the reason to do ODP.
- Depending on the kid’s schedule, could be too much soccer. ODP usually practices on a weekend or two a month.

Thanks for the info. Any idea what the tryout schedule is? The odp website is different than the registration email regarding times and location?

There are makeup tryout days 12/12 and 12/13 and 12/19 and 12/20. On the ODP note sent out it states, “These are options if the player has a legitimate excuse for missing 12/5 and 12/6”, initial tryout dates. I agree it's so disingenuous of the Peregrine derailed money train to chase local club kid dollars when they have nothing to offer in a normal year, yet alone the covid-19 edition.
Suspend this operation during vid and let the clubs have their players to train and keep them safe through established cohorts and club protocols. But peregrine would never do that, it's better to squeeze whatever $$ you can out of an audience that is clueless and the errr.. partner OYSA has no say in the matter. Safety, responsibility and value are not included or even a consideration. Same as it ever was.
