Population doesn’t work unless the difference is massive which it isn’t between the two states.
Tell that to the Netherlands and Iceland.
The difference is in the coaching. Oregon coaches are outdated dinosaurs still coaching the game that was played in the 90’s
Population isn't that different?
WA: ~7.6 million
Seattle metro: ~4 million
OR: ~4.2 million
Portland Metro: ~2.7 million
That being said, I do still agree that coaches in WA are better than Oregon for the most part. Part of that has to do with coaches pay. Its not even close between seattle clubs and portland clubs when it comes to pay. Not saying paying more money magically makes someone a better coach, but it does help attract good coaches who maybe would only do collegiate soccer or other things, becuase now its worth their time a bit more.
Basic coaching salaries in comparison
$3,000-$8,000 a year to coach in OR
$900-$2,400 a month to coach in WA
Don’t blame pay. Coaches are not paid $20k per team in WA. Additionally the problem isn’t just the staff coaches in Oregon. DOCs are the problem. Most are fat (literally) and lazy. Oh and the reason clubs don’t have more money to pay coaches is due club’s overpaying their DOCs!
