Even assuming that OPFC (the former Crossfire Oregon) was a paper partner, created to meet some technical requirement necessary to join ECNL, you seem to be arguing that what is sauce for the goose is not sauce for the gander here. And you seem to want to have it both ways with Thorns Academy--they are not a threat to CU or its business model because they are inept, but simultaneously they should be kept out of both ECNL and OYSA, and forced to play half their games in California if they want to participate in any leagues.

Of course, CU/THUSC has its own problems. It was terrible at U11 and U12 this past season, Rochelle Hearns having walked off with most of the younger-age talent (THUSC could only field teams at Division II this past spring). Having a top ECNL program will allow it to recruit top players at U13, but its own player pipeline has been disrupted. That will be an interesting scenario to watch. FC seems to be the stronger ECNL program at the younger ages, and certainly the stronger girls program in pre-ECNL. (Heck, Westside had better GU11 and GU12 teams than THUSC did). And now Kevin Legg is off to Oregon State, and it's unclear what his duties for CU will be, if any. (The OSU press release makes it sound like he resigned his position with CU, and mentions his family moving to Cowvallis; his bio on the CU website makes it sound like he's still an active member of the staff, and makes no mention of his new gig with the Beavers). Even if he is still working for CU, being a D1 assistant will severely limit his availability to work as a youth coach or DOC.

Maybe I've answered my own question--between Rochelle leaving THUSC, and Legg off to coach college, the CU brain trust is far more nervous about the future than it wants to admit. The collapse of the GDA may be a curse rather than a blessing--if Thorns players are now allowed to play high school, and aren't spending every other weekend on an airplane, they might just have some formidable competition.

I'm sure US Club and the ECNL league office would love to have two marquee NWSL academy teams in the program--even if the current ECNL teams in the Northwest are screaming bloody murder about that idea, US Club would rather have 'em inside the tent ******* out rather than outside the tent ******* in.
The Timbers outsourcing the Thorns to Westside only shows how little the Timbers cared about the GDA. Now that the GDA has failed, the problem is if Westside holds tryouts before other clubs are permitted. That is the problem.

ECNL has no interest in the Thorns who were terrible or Westside who has no history of producing top girl teams.

THUSC’s player pipeline was already drying up when Rochelle was there. She drove THUSC’s program into the ground and bailed. They only have up to go from where she left them.

If the Thorns are so bad why does anyone care if WST held tryouts before the OYSA date ?
If WST girls are so bad why does anyone care if WST held tryouts before the OYSA date ?

Why would anyone go to WST if they are terrible and if WST are terrible why would good players be recruited to them.

Oh by the way I don't think WST is going to hold tryouts for OYSA teams prior to the OYSA tryouts. I think the real issue is you don't know what the Thorns are doing for 2020/2021 and it scares the poo out of you. I think you also realize if the Timbers put the money behind this program to the full extent possible they will get whatever they want.

          You’re not very bright.

We already know the Timbers stopped subsidizing the Thorns which is why fees shot up to $8k. We know the Timbers outsourced the Thorns to Westside last year and reduced subsidies because they don’t care about it.

No one cares about the Thorns Academy. They were terrible and now without a league since the GDA folded. Until something changes, the Thorns Academy (if we can call it that) only have OYSA, which means they must abide by OYSA tryout rules.

See the logic here? It isn’t hard if you put your mind to it.

If Thorns DA does not exist and has become a none issue, why bash them at every turn ?
Multiple threads on here stating how bad the coaches, teams, players are. Show me one Oregon team who can compete out of state.

What does competing out of State even mean? Of course Oregon teams can compete out of State. Can they win a National Championship at the highest level? Probably not. It is not because it is Oregon but has to do more with population density.

Oregon ECNL teams compete outside of state and it is impressively ignorant to think otherwise.

I don’t care much for the Thorns hate but it is pretty clear Westside is using them as a recruiting gimmick.

Good for Westside then. Any club would do the same if they were in this position right now.

Most clubs are more ethically run than Westside Timbers.

LOL! Dumb people say dumb things.... The key difference is that CU is a THUSC program and, unlike the Thorns Academy, have a league to play in.

Every club has teams competing outside of state. Competing and being competitive against good teams from other states. Not getting blown out like Thorns DA and Oregon ECNL.

Check again on the ECNL front. CU is currently ranked top 20 in the country. I know that makes people jealous and goes against popular Oregon sucks mentality, but that is based purely on results.

I'm sure Thorns will find a league to play in. CU seems to be terrified that it might be ECNL.

Seattle ECNL clubs trying to keep Reign out as well.

Yes, but with so many top GDA programs returning to ECNL, expect CU to fall significantly.
