Pretty sure that the "Player" sent off in the U13B game from Westside on 9/22 was an assistant coach. No players were sent off in that game. The coach who was sent off and referee were both of Hispanic descent while we are counting race cards too.

Anglo coaches are less likely to reach for their back pocket if the words "ˇchinga tu madre, cabrón!" are uttered in their presence. :)

Not the race card as much as the language card.

            It really isn’t.

One implies racism is driving some cards; the other is that miscommunication is.

Don’t know that one but “Yo quiero taco bell” could get you a yellow.

No fan of MP but good for him. Pretty sure the ref from Wednesday 's game reffed my kids game last weekend.

That ref is an asshat - but that was a PK (how late it was and the different treatment Timbers got earlier in the half are all fair game though).

Real question is whether it will show up in Mike Smith's weekly report?

Looks like Robert Lucero has already served 10 games of his 26 game suspension (in 3 weekends). He should be good to attack another ref soon

Wait, wut, I thought OYSA had apologized and was going to be sending out a clarification soon?

                        No...

Apparently he was coaching 3 teams so the 26 match ban was to ensure it was a season ban.

OYSA isn't going to say anymore which is unfortunate. I'd like to see UPDX take the lead on this and put an end to referee abuse.

UPDX - all spin, no substance

OYSA apologized to United and Mike Smith did as well. Those apologies related to due process and communication.

Coach overreacted to a very tough situation. He disagrees that there was contact - referee stated that there was inadvertent face-to-face contact in the post-game argument - but coach has acknowledged to OYSA and to parents in the age group that he mishandled the situation. He also apologized to parents of other team after the game for leading to the suspension of the game.

United reps at the hearing were surprised by the decision, but will not appeal.

United has also requested that the final decision be published, as well as the referee reports and statements of both coaches. Think there is value is seeing all sides to the situation and to serve as a reminder that even in tough situations, coaches have to keep things in control or face the ramifications.

Beyond that club is using it as a teaching moment with its coaches, and a reminder that regardless of whose version of the facts you accept, the coach's conduct was not acceptable.

Nothing else to really say on it.

So can we start discussing week 2 yet?
