The page is still there: https://oysa.affinitysoccer.com/tour...=&gender=girls

They just took the button away.

(How much do you want to bet they move the page now too?)

That’s really young for a coach. Dang I coached for years competitively and never even got a yellow, and I had my moments. They must be out of control and waaaaaay out of line.

From timbers today. Can someone from oysa or a lawyer explain what this means?

Subject: Correction to 9-12-2019 Weekly League Update

Directors, Presidents, Coaches, and Team Managers,

The Weekly League Update sent to you on 9/12/2019 stated, “Congratulations to the majority of you on an opening weekend of very few calls and incidents. We did however, have a referee assault, which is not only tragic, it is completely unacceptable.”

Although no name, position (coach, player, spectator), or club was mentioned, this statement was in error. The word alleged should have been used. We received an allegation, and we are following the appropriate procedures in place to investigate the allegation—no determination of guilt has been made at this time, and no further updates on this matter will be provided. Please accept my apologies for the miscommunication.

          Best,
          Mike Smith
          League President

"referee assault" is a major allegation and "assault" implies physical injury. If OYSA, FIFA, whomever wants "referee assault' to include other things like a threatening conversation they should stop and pick another phrase.

This guy STILL has an 8 match ban but now it shows he's served 4 of 8 matches....but his team has only played 1 match without him.

We as coaches need to be better. Personally, I've seen what I think is improvement this last year but I have seen a lot of behavior that is over the top. I'll admit, I've done some things I'm not proud of. I've never been tossed....and I've never even been warned.

If a coach gets tossed, suspended I think it needs to be out there for everyone as a warning to the rest of us.

If this is an overreaction as some have eluded, the record needs to be corrected and this person reputation cleared.

There was a meeting last night about this, hearing, appeal, unknown and I'm waiting for details.

Keep in mind suspensions apply to ALL teams a coach coaches. So if he coaches multiple teams it’s possible (long shot) that he already served 4 games.

If this is true I hope it explains why a u11 girls coach has a red card suspension two weeks into fall season.

What about when a ref initiates a confrontation - say after a game has concluded? What does a coach or parent do in that situation?

One would assume that is an exceedingly rare scenario.
The coach or parent walks away

Sure but ref should be sanctioned/suspended - there is absolutely no reason for an official to initiate a confrontation after a match. Completely unprofessional and downright dangerous for everyone involved.

OYSA rules are unclear on this. If a player is suspended, only the games of the team he or she is rostered on "count" towards the suspension; a player who is serving a suspension may additionally not be club-passed onto any other team.

But coaches may be assigned to more than one team, or to none at all.

If that's the case that's dumb. Because all you have to is assign a coach to multiple teams to watch the "served games" add up. Might as well make all your hot headed coaches "assistant" on every team in your club just in case. You get a 2 match ban and it's served by noon the next day.

Some parent and a/r perspective on what happened:

Parent 1: Player number 1 (parent's child) was injured by the other team. She was crying and moving towards the bench. The sideline judge raised his flag. Coach went to check on the player. The player was standing holding her hand. The mid ref yelled at bobby to get back into his box and then he gave him a yellow card. Within less than 5 seconds a red card was produced and given to Coach. This parent spoke to Coach after the game and Coach said that he told the ref that he was trying to protect his players. This parent spoke to the sideline ref as he is the kids teacher. The sideline ref stated that he thought the player was coming out to sub because she was hurt but the mid ref wouldn't let that happen. He also said that Coach was not initially being overly verbal, that really the ref wouldn't let him say anthing. He said that Coach did say that he was, 'trying to protect his players since you are not doing this'.

Parent 2: Player was hurt, crying and holding her hand. She was coming toward the coaches bench holding her hand. The mid ref pulled out a yellow card and told Coach that he was out of the box. This parent stated that the red card came just a few seconds after the yellow card was given.

I talked to 4 parents but they all say they couldn't hear, but that they could see the ref talking a lot and then the yellow/red just followed within seconds.

Probably time for Body Cams for coaches at UPDX and a parent meeting. Parent who is also the "side ref" AKA Assistant Referee's teacher discussing the issue? When did that happen? That itself seems a bit out of line.

WTH is going on with UPDX!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think you need help -obsessing about updx and hell bent on destroying a coach that has nothing to do with why you dislike the club.

Doesn’t sound like red card worthy and definitely not 8 game suspension!
