Us Youth soccer is equally as bad as got soccer for other reasons.


The other way to measure is cross reference games. Period.

Fc Portland 02 maybe. They’ve been mediocre for a long time and playing ecnl b teams.

Same here. Youth soccer rankings is MUCH better! You can even email to add any games they are missing. Cross references like opponents and opponents of opponents. Got soccer is only got soccer points. Neither is great.

Both are garbage. YS doesn’t have updated tournaments and no roster’s. GS at least has updated games, but a lot the roster list are dated.

The data feed us apparently only getting data from from Gotsoccer. It says so at the bottom of the rankings if you look at the teams. It used to scrape DA and ECNL league games and showcases. It also used to pull from USYS sites too.

So at this very moment it's essentially a Gotsoccer analysis site.

Gotsoccer only tells gotsoccer games which is extremely limited. Particularly because teams have figured out that they can find and play in weak gotsoccer tournaments to skyrocket their ranking based on wins against 3rd and 4th tier teams. All we need to do is start emailing YSR with updated game results and team names. At least YSR is trying to be valid.

Maybe it is due to what the previous poster suggested, that it is just pulling from Got Soccer, not sure? One thing I know for sure having monitored it fairly closely over the last three years, something changed and it is no longer reliable.

YSR still pulls from other sources (including state cups and leagues for all teams in OYSA, and DA results for teams in the Development Academy). The problems it has are (and these apply to everyone):

* Tracking changes in clubs and teams, especially when a new season starts (all the Oregon 05 boys teams are currenty listed as 06s, and so forth). Many clubs label their teams by age and not birth year, so this confuses the database.

* The "clique problem": Last year, OYSA and DA teams seldom played each other, but the rankings contained both. In some cases, especially if one or the other had one dominant team, that team would rise in the rankings due to beating up on minnows, even if the league was weaker overall. For a while last year, the #1 (!!!) 04 team in the country was some rec team from Salem. This particular rec team played in a rec league that published standings (most rec leagues do not), and dominated its peers (quite a few 10-0 wins). Based on that limited sample, the YSR algorithms assigned this team an absurdly high ranking.

* There isn't any common data format for presenting results, so "scraping" is necessary; and scraping algorithms are often error-prone.
