The better team often doesn’t win in soccer. That said, a win is a win and a tie is a tie so teams do whatever it takes to get the result. Why wouldn’t a smart team pack the box with everyone on defense and hope for a tie? Why is it better to lose 9-0 trying to play straight up vs Jesuit?

        Better team wins.

If West Salem did this (which the didn’t) it’s no different than a football team running the ball and waiting for the last second to snap the ball, or in soccer to take the ball to the corner, winning team to sub every minute, kicking the ball out of bounds, or to double or triple team a good forward it’s all part of a strategy get over it.

By the way if you want a shot to beat Jesuit. Start by not letting their best player JM get and distribute the ball spoon feeding to their fast good forward.

There no rules that say how you have to play only what you can and can't do. You can use your hands if you are a field player you can kick the ball where you please.

Best chance to tie & beat Jesuit in pks is to put everyone behind the ball except one good forward.

But then we have to listen to that mom scream “push forward! Attack! Get up there! Help her out! Your team needs you!”

Sounds like reasonable advice to me. I like that Mom.

Don’t kid yourself.... Both schools have sh!t coaches. Sure, St. Mary’s got a result, but packing it in is not soccer and it is about as good as you will get from their coach.

                        Truth.

The only thing I would add is that at least Durano had enough confidence in his team to let them play their game, I have more respect for that than I do for Rochelle”s play-to-win strategy that parked the bus and was clearly a vote of no confidence in her team.

Parents had reasonable expectations. The kids showed up and played hard and didn’t quit so that’s something to be proud of.

This is how Rochelle coaches her club teams so not surprised.

Some years you have a weak team. Is what it is.

And to think her new club is centered on principles of female leadership and empowerment. Having a coach who doesn’t believe In her team is not empowering. What a joke. What a farce.
