Playing stars in games like that would be embarrassing. No one gets off on stealing candy from babies. Especially when the entire bench playing most of the game still results in a complete crushing.
But he still cut three seniors this year who all play club and are all good in their own rights.. explain that!

Have no idea about that or any internal Jesuit politics so I can’t comment. Just know, because it is common knowledge, that any team that is crushing another team, doesn’t continue to play their best players. The entire bench (not just a few) goes in and does the best they can. In Jesuit’s case, this is only a slight drop so there is even less reason to keep the stars in the game. No coach would keep any top stars in a mismatched game for long because that would be the definition of a soulless slime. No way Jesuit AD would put up with that.

I do feel for Jesuit because they are so much better than any other team in Oregon. There is such a difference that all of their games are meaningless. It’s not Jesuit’s fault but it would be like having a top u17 club team playing in a u13 rec league. When you’re playing your bench all game and still winning 7 or 10 to 0, that’s just no fun for either team. It would actually make more sense to not play any of those games. It’s precisely why the NFL has salary caps - leagues fail and no one wants to watch when teams are too mismatched.

Agreed. Which makes cutting the seniors even more disgusting.

Why is cutting seniors disgusting if they are not good enough?

Making a team like anything else should be based on merit.

There are non cut sports at Jesuit. Soccer is a cut sport.

One problem is that since most high schools form teams at the same time--a player who is cut from Jesuit won't get to play soccer that season. Same as a player cut from a public school--but the player cut from Jesuit COULD conceivably elect to play for her neighborhood HS.

Perhaps a rule requiring private schools without attendance boundaries to hold their tryouts a week earlier, so kids who don't make the cut have a shot playing elsewhere.

Of course, HS soccer is SUPPOSED to be about sportsmanship and character and development and having fun and such. If you read OSSA bylaws, they say that out loud and often, and even take a few thinly veiled shots at the world of competitive club sports and the focus on winning found there. But in practice, there are quite a few schools, and Jesuit is certainly one of them, that chase trophies every bit as much as the clubs do, and view schools who DO honor OSSA values as a bunch of losers.

Do you really think a senior from Jesuit would opt to go play for her neighbor HS? If you chose to go to Jesuit because of sports and got cut then that is on you.

So you want to change the OSSA bylaws to make woman's soccer a non cut sport at Jesuit?

Do people care about winning men's HS football and basketball? Why would we treat women's sports any differently.

It is bad sportsmanship and character to have cuts in sports or to play your hardest vs. an opponent. If you are talking specifically women's soccer, there are less dirty plays coming out of Jesuit than most (if not all) HS teams.

                      Ouch. There is no point.
Let Jesuit have two varsity teams (bonus: don’t have to cut those seniors).
Make a league just for all the private schools. The two Jesuit teams can be champ and runner up every year.
Let the public schools have their own league.
                      Everyone’s happy.

                        Agree.
If Jesuit is pounding the competition by 6 and 8 goal margins and still
cutting seniors, they have completely lost sight of the meaning of high school sports. Private schools should absolutely have their own league.

Why should private schools have their won league? It's not like the top 10 teams are all private schools.

They should absolutely have their own league. They recruit and have no borders. Why should schools have to compete with them if they can’t recruit and have boundaries?

This is on the table and just needs a little push.

I for one would love to see it happen. The whole creepy religious priest stuff turns my stomach.

What a bunch of whiners. Classic. You think the whole world is here to serve your interests. If you can't win within the rules, complain about the rules not benefiting you. Maybe there should be one league for every team, then we can all have trophies. That would keep Portland weird.

If this was the reason the a good then you would see Jesuit and Central in the top 2 of every sport all the time. Maybe it is something else...

Public schools recruit more than Jesuit. Most districts have open enrollment. Most of the kids at Jesuit come from Catholic grade schools. If you look at the numbers, Jesuit draws from a smaller pool than public schools in the metro area.

No, it's not. Just a fantasy.

Finally, we are at the root of your argument. You don't want to interact with religious schools.
