It's the dead period for NCAA women's soccer recruiting, so likely not very many at the D-1 level.

i thought dead periods meant no contact. So coaches are prohibited from attending showcases?

                Copied from ncaa.org:

During a dead period a college coach may not have face-to-face contact with college-bound student-athletes or their parents, and may not watch student-athletes compete or visit their high schools. Coaches may write and telephone student-athletes or their parents during a dead period.

For comparison, here's how Oregon fared last year:

                  https://usyouthsoccer.sportsaffinity.com/tour/public/info/club_standings.asp?sessionguid=&tournamentguid=151 4521A-1894-49FA-9855-6A0E1A5364AF&clubguid={C4C69C88-A59D-41DD-AD63-3A24FD195CB6}&clubname=ODP+Championships

Overall, the OR boys were somewhat stronger overall last year (though sending only 6 teams rather than 9). The 02s, who went undefeated in pool play and made it to the finals last year, have aged out of the program. The 04s are finalists both years. Substantial gains were made by the 05s this year (having the DA players back is probably a big deal), and this is true despite sending two teams at this age group. The 06s, on the other hand, regressed. The 08s, new to ODP, nearly made it to the semis, but not quite.

The sending of three B teams probably skewed the results as well. The 05 B team won 3 out of 4 games, and the 03 B team finished with an identical record to the 03 A team. The 07 B team, however, struggled, losing all three pool matches before winning one in consolation.

The girls did slightly better than last year overall, and Oregon was able to scrape together teams at all six age groups (last year no 03 team went), though none of the girls teams were able to win a group this year. Last year the 06 team did win their group, I suspect the difference is that this year many of those girls are now in ECNL.

Final results now posted. Cal South takes 8 out of the 12 titles, four on the boys' side and four on the girls' side. Washington gets two boys titles (08 and 04), Cal North and Southern Nevada each won one girls' trophy.

With the B04 team losing the final to our northern neighbors, the Oregon ODP record is 26-6-28. Which is about the range I would expect--while we often lament the fact that Oregon is a soccer backwater compared to California or even Washington, the West is full of states and regions who have an even worse situation, for much the same reason: low populations (or low soccer-playing populations), and no critical mass for a thriving soccer culture.

Of course, Oregon has more people than both Utah and Nevada, yet those two states did better. Utah has a very well-run MLS club, and while Nevada does not have MLS, it has an excellent soccer tradition, particularly in Las Vegas. (The northern Nevada region centered around Reno/Tahoe, not so much). There are probably things we could learn from these two states in how to better punch above our weight. We'll never be California, but we should at least be on par with the Great Basin states, and shooting for parity with Washington and Arizona.

Kudos to the B04 team, for making it to the finals twice in a row. Oregon has a lot of talent in this age group--and that's only counting the kids who did do ODP.

Kudos to the B05 team, and to the job done by Cony and Steven. Some of the criticism directed at them has been fair, especially concerning the number of Westside players in the pool. And Cony is... a character. Simultaneously unorthodox and old-school in his approach, there were a LOT of parents scratching their head in the Providence Park stands, wondering if he knew what the heck he was doing. Few drills--and many of the drills that he did use were teaching things like trick plays on free kicks. Mainly scrimmages--often with blatantly unfair matchups on the field--with kids not on the field often jogging around the perimeter. Cony striding onto the field at random intervals, looking like a Sith lord in his big black cape, stopping play to lecture at length on some obscure tactical point. His insistence on man-to-man defense. And an interesting roster selection for the Phoenix trip. Yet... it worked like a charm. The B05s were one of the brightest spots in Phoenix for Oregon, with the A team winning their group (the only Oregon team to do so), and the B team (which had a leaky defense during the scrimmages) earning three clean sheets and finishing the tournament with a .750 record, losing only to the eventual champions in the group stage, and finishing in the top six.

Kudos to the 06 girls, for posting a winning record despite losing much of last year's roster to ECNL.

Kudos to the 03 girls, for posting a winning record in the final chance for these girls (03s age out of ODP next season), despite Oregon not even fielding an 03G team last year.

And kudos to all the players who went down and represented Oregon well, regardless of their teams' records, and to the coaches and parents who went with them.

                              .
Uh, not sure where you got that the 06 Girls had a winning record. Lost to NorCal, tied Idaho, and beat Montana 1-0. It is true that most of last year's 06 girls who won their group are either in the DA or ECNL, but that begs the question of what is the point of ODP on the girls side. If the Timbers/Thorns don't want their players playing in it then why would any other club? And ECNL kids can still do it if they want to ... but no one wants to.

Same for the '03 girls. How exactly did they have a winning record? They played two games and won 1 and lost 1. And the win was against Alaska. By the way, flying to Phoenix to play 2 games? ***?
