Then there is RTC/ODP.

And lots of these kids know each other--from ODP, from casual soccer, from school, etc.

And let's be honest--some families are easily recruitable, always looking for a better opportunity: a starting position, a name brand coach, better teammates.

And every club has someone who is on the b team but thinks they should be on the A team.

This is how it actually happens. School, casual soccer (futsal, off season indoor, etc) being a big one. And the least likely to get caught. Coach asks, hey, don't you go to school with so and so? Ask if she is playing indoor, futsal, SITS... And the grooming begins.

The kids are often the #1 recruiters. Sometimes manipulated and unknowing.

B team. Yeah, often the family reaches out first. They know somebody at a different club, looking for a change. Often coaches aren't in on this one or don't really know who's who.

After game, parking lot, cold calls to some kid off a roster. Never seen or heard of that one myself. I probably don't have any players good enough for that...

Does it happen, yes. But obviously you don't know how so your kids are trash or your a coach that can't develop a player somebody else would want.

Most common way to get a player to a new club is get the coach. But you're probably that guy who's entire team left and figured you must have missed the call.

The really good players aren't recruited this way. So maybe your kid isn't as good as you think. Which is common. Their used to be this running joke about "the next Mia Hamm." Can't recall the male version...but you get the idea.
