Portland Thorns is azz backwards, overpriced, underfunded and has a mediocre staff.

I do think that the men’s DA has hired some quality staff as of late. They just need to change the direction of the club and start doing things right for players.

Excuses, almost every other mls club cares and has put effort into its junior academy and done do with integrity and true intention. Fing get with it TA and stop just counting the $’s you make plenty already. Some of the best businesses in the world reinvest in their communities and the youth academy is where you should begin a holes

You don't get. You want the neighborhood Mcdonalds to change their menu that suits your palate. You simply don't understand the MLS overlay business franchise model.

Portland is geographically isolated and not a major US City, and really never had a chance in the MLS archanian set up for DA.

This not an excuse its an everyday reality and the outcomes are as expected for Portland, OR.

US Soccer and the MLS made a grave error in judgement mandating Academies for all member framchises given their socialist and illogical business model.

Only clubs in major markets get chance to have some homegrowns year after year.

There are many Portland pro's.

The academy doesn't need to produce 10 players a year. Since the 2010 there are at least 10 pro players from Oregon that the Timbers can't seem to fit into the organization.

That's why some MLS clubs want out or want big changes. It costs a lot of money to run DA programs and the clubs get very little payback in return. They can't make much money off the few homegrowns they do develop.

Hey Timbers intern, you seem to have all the convenient answers on how none of this is the Timbers organization fault, but is in fact the fault of the "illogical and Socialist" organization of MLS. Cool. Got it. Now, how can we blame MLS for the Timbers creating "alliance clubs" or taking over OYSA? Obviously, you are prepared to tell me how either of these endeavors make money for the Timbers, and that they are in fact losing money. MLS's fault. no doubt? Also, can we blame MLS for the pathetic roster of the Timbers? Timbers are old in some areas, young but not talented in others, and absolutely desolate in the rest. Let’s compare real salt lake- a market very similar in terms of population and geographic issues for travel. How does this group have 4 times the success from its academy it’s not a major market?? I can tell you how- they have a better system and commitment to their community and also operate with integrity

Other sports don't have transfer markets. Of course, MLS operates on a closed model for both labor and competition, but they'd like to have access to transfer revenues if they could.

You could also argue they can't be a real league without academies, and they certainly can't be very good clubs without them. It's okay to demand that your football club acts like one, in other words.
