Eastside FC all in ECNL with XF Premier

    http://www.eliteclubsnationalleague....019-20-season/

Where does this leave the Portland Thorns? At least the Thorns won’t lose as many players by going to single year agebands.

This actually makes perfect sense. When Eastside left Reign and the other big Seattle clubs went ECNL, Eastside was the strongest Seattle club still in WYSA; literally wouldn't have anyone left to play.

    Not good news for Reign.

With Eastside not part of Reign, there's no reason that GDA need worry about this--it's a local youth club that doesn't have the technical capabilities to join GDA, so whether they play in the state league or in the US Club travel league isn't that much of a concern.

Technical capabilities - that is a good one.

I suspect Eastside, SU, PacNW will be around much longer then Reign Academy.

          Different business models.

Local nonprofit youth clubs, assuming they don't take on too much debt or have the team treasurer blow the checking account in Vegas, can last a very long time. And part of that is keeping expenses as low as possible.

A professional sports academy, on the other hand, is not a nonprofit youth club. The Reign are in business to make money; and are dependent on the success of NWSL. Unlike the Thorns, which are part of a profitable MLS franchise, the Reign are not (the Sounders have nothing to do with the Seattle NWSL club). And a well-run academy will be generally more expensive to operate than a nonprofit youth club.

Now whether the Reign have a well-run academy is another question. The Timbers barely qualify; it's entirely possible that the training regimen at Reign is no better than at Crossfire Premier or PacNW. But having an adult first team that can subsidize operations, deal with the expenses of travel, and so forth is a big difference.

Snide remark above was not about how Reign are run (they have some good teams), just looking at some of the clubs that were accepted in GDA, made that claim odd.

I don't think Reign can afford to subsidize their academy - not sure they are offering any right now - other than some sharing of expenses. Thorns have the profit center that is OYSA that presumably offsets some of their academy expenses and it is not clear how much Westside bears in terms of downside risk (i.e. do Thorns just write an annual check to Westside).

Where ECNL is killing it in Seattle is by going less "Elite" - pealing off Xfire, offering numerous ECNL options, reducing travel costs, makes GDA less and less attractive, unless a family buys in full board into the "professional" training environment.

            Not good for WYSA either.

Talk about an investment in the women's pro game. Good to be an elite Oregonian girl these days. Incredible stuff.

NWSL Portland Thorns are firmly placed in the US Soccer DA. Now fully funded Academy and rocking going forward, they have the best youth female player in the states on a multi year Nike contract. Thorns are a different level than the non-profit local club fare of Washington, not sure why you try and relate apples to oranges.

It's good to have a friend like NIKE when it comes to the best professional Women's Soccer club in the world, in little ole Oregon.

The NWSL Thorns offloaded their kids Thorns Academy to Westside.

The price is up to about $4,000 per year.

The best players in Oregon want to play high school soccer.

Thorns Academy has struggled of late. No wonder.

Attracting the nation's most elite player, Portland Thorns DA.

                      Go ask her about HS.

Thanks for the laugh! Apples and Oranges. Fully funded professional club academy has not any peer in Oregon club landscape, as it should be.

Well, expect maybe recreational HS soccer, right?

Cool your roll on nations most elite. She is 13 and as of now this appears to be more publicity stunt then epic move on Thorns side and Nike.

Ask her about HS? She is 13 and she shouldn’t have deep analysis to provide about life decisions. Hopefully their are adults close to this situation with some perspective. Doubtfull—-

Most Elite Oregon girls play for HS and CU. It is good to be them.

What in God's name are you talking about? Fully funded? It's $3,100 plus travel for showcases. She may be the most instagrammed youth player in the country, but what does that have to do with the GDA?

Crazy, on the Wst coast GDA is not doing well. Look for Thorns to be ECNL within next two years if they are still a thing.
