DA guarantees 25% starts. Some clubs don't even fully comply with that rule. And it's just starts - coach can pull you right away if they want. Bench warmers usually get starts in easy games to fulfill the requirement then don't stay in that long. Wins still matter in the "development" academy.

Obviously development doesn’t matter. One look at the playing time stats tells you that. Thorns Academy teams should be max 15 players, 13 field plus 2 keepers because that’s all they play anyway.

They're allowed to roster 18 per game. Plenty of teams more than that on their rosters so some won't even go. Then because of some rules some who dress won't set foot on the field. So great to drive multiple hours and not play.

This is the main reason top clubs across the nation are going back to ecnl or stayed ecnl all along. Their name is the development academy and yet they develop the fewest girls. Sad.

I'm not speaking of either the Thorns or GDA in general, but there are two distinct development models to consider: One is "developing elite players", the other is "developing everyone". The former is more appropriate at pro academies and feeder programs, and is neither nice nor fair--players judged to lack elite potential are cut, kept on the bench, or used as training cones. In the latter model, the coach is charged with developing his entire roster, not just the top stars, and so things like playing time are allocated more judiciously.

Which model is more appropriate, in my opinion, depends on who is paying for the training.

The reason any of these girls clubs join the (US Club) league has nothing to do with competition, standard of play or development. Least of all coaching.

It's simply a business model used to capture $$$ due to the trickle down impact of title IX funding for an afterthought sport.

These are business's trying to sell something that is already free (title ix $$)

It's truly comical when someone spends thousands on travel to hopefully get something that is readily available due to title ix.

It's too bad neither models are in operation in Oregon.

                Nice thought though.

ECNL is still the best option for college bound elite players. Gda is not that great.

Really strong grades & test scores aren't important. Seriously.

Elite players can play in sandbox league and still get athletic aid over a jv HS Oregon club player who travels a lot.

The best players get snatched up regardless of club league.

For most kids these days college isn't an option or first choice its an outfated cultural ritual they don't want any part of., but the travel is really worthwhile.

Title IX unintended consequences. Pay to travel leagues in Girls Soccer.

Which League got the most and best 2019, 2020 and 2021 commits so far?

I think the elite players should go for the league that got the best commits. The good bit not elite players should go for the league that got the most commits.

Close to seeing the light, almost there, don't give up.

Getting to the other side is worth it....

For ‘18 grads: Salmon Creek had the best commitment list
                              2019 grads: ? Thorns Academy?
2020 grads: Thorns Academy is leading the pack but ***c is a close 2nd
2021 grads: CU is leading the pack
                              2022 grads: None yet

OYSA travel teams lead at every age for overall commits but many are low level schools and CCs. However, they also end up with about as many D1 commits too so does anyone really need to play ecnl or gda to get recruited, even to D1?
