Nope FC & CU would suffer that fate if they switched from US Club to USYS (OYSA).

Thorns already lite up the OYSA (pre DA) without the region's best on their rosters in yesteryears, since becoming Oregon's only DA offering. it's seriously a ridiculous statement of nonsense.

Name one team thorns beat from OYSA when they did a friendly. Just one.

Not a thorns fan at all but this is just dumb. Their 01/02 team played in Far West and beat everyone including state cup winning Salem and state cup runner up Eugene. Then they played in the 00 OYSA winter league and beat every single Oregon team they played.

Probably 2nd division and earn promotion like every team. Unless a waiver is given which is possible.

Not how OYSA works--placement into OYSA flights is mainly based on coach self-reporting and summer tournaments. There is no set pyramid that teams have to "earn" their way in to. Given all the turnover that happens every year, it would be hard for there to be a year-to-year pyramid.

              Not a thorns fan? Right.....

That was 3 years ago! And they only played 01 teams. 01 league champion last year wasn’t even a 01 team.

Isn’t it telling that they are average at best.

How about scrimmages last year or this year??

You won’t say anything because everyone in state and out of state use thorns as a door mat

I know reading is hard. As I said, they beat every Oregon team in the 00 OYSA bracket. That means they played 00 teams, genius. They also beat every 01 team in far west including Pac NW, who eventually won state cup in Washington.

I am about as far from a thorns fan as you’ll find. I think their development model sucks and they are run by shysters who prey on parents’ FOMO. But to say that thorns wouldn’t beat Oregon teams makes you look stupid and invalidates your argument. There are plenty of legitimate things to criticize thorns about. Their record against Oregon teams isn’t one of them.

GDA wasn’t allowed to have matches with outside GDA competition but GDA can now schedule games with outside competition so I’m sure the Thorns will schedule some local games against OYSA top teams. It’s a nice opportunity for top Oregon girls to play each other.

                    Thorns 00/01 v FCSC00, Medford00, Westside00, Salem01
                    Thorns 02/03 v ***c02, Eastside02, westside02, eugene02, gps03 and fcsc03

Thorns 00/01 could win or lose any of those match ups. In true US soccer fashion, they took the early bloomers (that tried out) and others have caught up and surpassed them. Add that a few academy starters left and returned to their OYSA teams. Thorns u19 team is good but won’t risk it. They could win all those games or lose at least a couple. However, Thorns 00/01 would definitely be in the mix at the top of OYSA u19 and maybe #1 since FCSC00 isn’t playing.

Thorns 02/03 is different story. They’ll never play any of those teams because they know they’ll lose - probably every single one of those OYSA match ups.
The Thorns 02/03 team would be premier but would be mid pack at best.

A few clubs leaving in one seasonal year (DA) will never approach the cataclysmic demise of the US Club league of 2017 of 70 clubs gone, that damage is beyond repair. Even with handful of band aid clubs that return (DA), to USYS or US Club league offerings, these clubs will run roughshod over the slim pickings (leftovers) that are still omnipresent and stuck in the expensive and mindless travel abyss.
This is one of the most delusional messages on this board ever, and that’s saying a lot. First, it’s not true. Dear Thorns, you now have one club in the PNW to play against and that club just moved to Tacoma. You have one team that is not in last place. Teams are leaving the GDA — expect more “all-in” announcements soon. I’m not saying GDA is going to die, just that it’s going to die outside of SoCal and Texas. Facts.

I’m the OP and since you asked...

Thorns saw a cash cow in ECNL and wanted their piece of the pie (actually, they wanted the entire pie because they are greedy). They had a captive audience in ODP so they turned a year of ODP (paid for by parents) into a thorns infomercial complete with warnings about players being left behind. They then proceeded to violate almost every “rule” of academy - charging a tryout fee, not mandating practice 4x’s a week, and allowing girls to play high school sports. They got away with this at first by making it cheap. Now it’s less cheap. But still the same “academy in name only” product. Girls are going to the same colleges as ECNL and OYSA players. Nothing has changed except thorns got their piece of the pie. But not the whole pie, which is probably a disappointment.

Lots of disappointment at the low quality of talent that signed up.

                            History much?

The DA started a nationwide platform for 74 of the best clubs in the country in 2016/17 was the selection year.

Sorry you weren't aware of the facts, don't let that get in the way of your hysterical narrative.

After the 2016-17 season the US Club league actually died, and those let behind have been reaching into the deep talent pools of the less populous states just to say afloat, never mind relevant. Maybe at their optimistic rate of 3 to 5 clubs returning to US Club every season they will remerge 25 years from today.

Elite kids and their parents want high school soccer. That’s why the top teams are leaving GDa.

For 2019-20 they have the most teams in their 3 year history.
